You can use 10w30 weight year round. I highly recommend you use synthetic oil in this air cooled engine and change the oil/filter every 50 hours. I think you will find it holds 1.5 quarts with filter change. Do not overfill.

Someone recommended that I use 20-50. Oil on my 1999 Honda .accord with 133, 000 on it

I would NOT recommend using 20w-50 oil in your Accord at all. The manufacturers state a certain multi-viscosity oil to use in all their vehicles and you should stay with that. Many cars use a 5w-30,5w-20 oil and some should use a 0w-20 oil. Modern engines have tighter tolerances on the internal moving parts of the engine than engines from the 1970's and 1980's. A 20w-50 oil is way too high a viscosity(thickness) to use in todays engines. The first number, say 5w, is the cold start viscosity of the oil so the engine can start easier and have lubrication in cold(winter) temperatures. The second number, say 30, is the viscosity of the oil when the engine warms up to normal operating temperature. The oils have viscosity modifiers in them so as the engine and oil temperatures change(cold to hot, hot to cold), the engine has the lubrication protection it needs to operate correctly. I recommend using a synthetic blend oil that is found in many of todays engines right from the factory and stay with the viscosity that the manufacturer recommends in the owners manual. If you do not have an owners manual, call the dealer service department and ask them.

Looking for manual for Poulan countervibe 3700 What is the oil to fuel ratio?

IAW with specifications here (40:1 - 1 gallon of premium fuel to 3.2 ounces of quality 2-cycle oil)

The OM for a 3700 is not loaded. Please try here:

Fuel/Oil Mixture
  1. Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL suppliers recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 1gal premium/4oz chainsaw 2-cycle engine oil - used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (1gal premium/2.6oz Stihl 2-cycle engine oil)
  2. Any fuel containing ethanol is not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few weeks. Anything over 1.5 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine. HTH

2003 suburban 2500 8.1 liter oil calls for 5w 30 Ive been told to use heavier oil as it gets older? What do you recomend?

Follow the recommendations in the owner's manual or service manual - usually 10w-40 for summer and 5w-30 for winter roughly. Oil that is too viscous makes the engine work harder than necessary. If you want to provide extra "cushion" for tired engine parts, add a bottle of STP oil treatment. This stuff is the best thing for an older engine, as it takes up some of the gap between slightly sloppy tolerances, and it makes the oil adhere to engine parts much better than oil alone. Highly recommended, and doesn't change the oil viscosity characteristics significantly (even though it looks like it would!).

Your Craftsman is probably a Poulan, for the past few years Poulan has recommended a 40:1 ratio 1 gal premium/3.2 oz quality 2-cycle engine oil. I'd thin down even a little more 50:1 (1 gal premium/2.6 oz quality 2-cycle engine

For the bar every home center and hardware sells bar oil. It is 30 weight non-detergent oil with a few additives to help it adhere where lubrication is needed. HTH
