Question about Boating

Suzuki 50 HP outboard motor keep overheating. change impellor but it was in good shap removed the thermostat and had a large amount of water comming out of it. But when I plug the water return hose the *** stream stops the water drains from the head as I can see it once I removed the thermostate and 2 minutes later the overheat alarm sounds. Sometimes it self fixes after a while sometime it does not...The thermostate checks fine new impellor flushed the system and there seems to be no blockage. Same result in the water and with the earmuffs. It just seems like something is rerouting the water but where?

Where are the serial numbers located on a 1985 Suzuki 115 hp outboard motor??? have looked everywhere

The serial numbers are on the transom bracket where your engine bolts to the back of your boat !
If no numbers then remove the gearbox and take the impellor and its housing to a dealer and they should be able to match them !

I ran my Suzuki 85dt with the baffles on and it over heated. now it won't run. Any suggestions on how to fix this ?

what do you mean by not having the baffles on ??
If you ran the engine without water feed to the waterpump then you will have melted the impellor and overheated the pistons and might have damaged the bores etc !?
Check the compressions and they need to be no less than 100psi each, the impellor and housing and the pipe up to the engine must be checked ! You can run the engine without the gearbox fitted by connecting the water hose to the pipe once all checked ! Any more info u need contact me !

Change the water pump on a 90 hp Johnson outboard

tilt engine and remove all bolts that hold gearbox to leg , put box in vice and remove impellor house and remove impellor , check all holes and seals below housing for damage etc , if impellor has broken up then check water down pipe is clear , you can run engine with box off and put hose to down pipe and turn water on and run engine for 20min and see if engine cools b4 you fit box so you know no blockages etc ! as you fit impellor rotate clockwise as you push down on housing , bolt up and fit box and as you do turn flywheel to engauge driveshaft ! Bobs your uncle ....

How to Change the impeller on Suzuki 140 outboard motor

Suzukis are normally a mission to work on especially if it is a two stroke,so I suggest you get a workshop manual.all gearbox bolts must be undone, the gear linkage is under the bottom carb, this is the tricky part, you have to loosen a nut at bottom of gear arm where gearcable fits, then push in with screw driver, this releases gear change shaft.the biggest problem is trying to see what you are doing.good luck

2000 Mercury 115 ELPTO impeller replacement. The Quicksilver replacement kit comes with various washers / face seal. The water pump housing didn't have a seal on top of the old one. Am I supposed to use...

if you mean a large flat sided 'O' ring then this is to help keep water in the impellor housing !? some housings have gaskets between the base plate and housing , check the impellor in the housing and see if it stands proud as then you need the gasket ! compare with the old one as it mite have been forgotten !! check the seal and tube for the water pipe also ok!

Water pump

The water pump is a flexible impellor located in the top of the bottom section of the leg of the outboard. It is driven by the drive shaft to the prop that is spinning all the time the motor is running. You will find it behind or near the water inlet slots at the bottom of the leg

Gear box oil leak

Here is a website where a manual for you outboard may be purchased.  Outboard Marine went out of buisness in 2000 and thus no parts of origial manufacture are support is available . Therir are secondary markets .    THe Lower case splits in half and their is a seal around the prop shiftm which is pressed in. The seal between the cases are cut o-rings which are placed and glued into place with gasket seal.
The water pump is located where the case splits a little bit higher. You must open the little port on the side and take out one of the screws to the connecting shift linkage to split the case. After splitting the case the drive shaft and water pickup tube(s) wil come out of the powwer head or the tubs may stick into the power head which is ok. Place the lower skag into a vice and remove the 4 or 5 screws to the water pump housing. Remove and replace impellor and impellor plate if available. If part(pieces) of the rubber impellor is missing flush out the tubes and the power head to remove them.   When reinstalling the lower unit use a flash light to make sure that the tubes return  to the proper place in the power head and the shift lever is resecured. If you need more assistance, just write back. I was an Outboard motor mechanic for five years about the time of your motor.
