Question about Canon PIXMA MP160 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

My printer won't feed the paper through. The machine clicks and the rollers move as it's supposed to, but the paper doesn't feed. I even tried helping the paper along with a little push--it will grab onto it, but doesn't take it all the way through the machine, and the printer continues printing anyway like the paper was fed correctly.

Even though it's mostly bad news, thank you for enlightening me and showing what can/can't be done. At least I have a clue on what to do now. Thanks so much. Btw, do the rollers cost much to replace? Is it worth the hassle?

Yeah this is common in these printers where you need a new auto feeder or the rollers to not help the paper in. Allot of people come to me with this problem 5 people fixed there issue by going inside and the other 15 just said the heck with it and replaced there entire printer. What your are going to embark on is a repair job. The feeder rollers need to be replaced or if there stuck with previous paper james un-freed.

Takes a screw driver and a whole bunch of patients. do not shoot the messenger because its the truth. Sorry to have to deal you the bad news.

Attempt to make a copy is stopped when "paper jam" error message comes on. The rear door opens to reveal the copy accordioned against the drum area, With every try this happens. Can it be...

It sounds like the rollers are not feeding the paper properly. It's likely supposed to go up and around to be printed on, but the upper rollers are not catching the paper properly and instead of feeding through like it's supposed to, it's crunching up against the drum.

The rollers in a laser printer can sometimes get dirty and won't pick up the paper properly. My recommendation would be the following:

1) Remove the paper from the printer.

2) Open the back cover.

3) Take a damp, lint-free cloth (add a couple drops of vinegar to it for extra cleaning power) and hold it lightly against the rubber rollers inside the back of the printer.

4) Tell the printer to make a copy so that the rollers will try to move to pull the paper through.

The rollers should essentially clean themselves against the cloth as they try to move to prime themselves. You might have to repeat the copy request a couple of times in order to get them completely clean.

If this solution doesn't work, you could try taking it into a repair shop, but it's likely that repairing a printer is going to cost more than simply buying a new one, unfortunately.

Hope this is helpful!

Paper won't feed properly and jams. the paper starts to feed then twists and jams.

There are a couple of possibilities. First is a little piece of paper could be stuck somewhere along the paper path and is causing one of the feed rollers to not grab the paper evenly, which will make the page twist on most of the models in this series, if you pull the paper out and take a flashlight and look up the feed path you will usually see anything in the feed path near/on the rollers at the top.
Another possibility is one of the feed rollers is old and worn out (If machine gets heavy use) and it will cause same issue.
Also light paper stock can sometimes be too thin for the rollers to grab properly and cause it to twist and slide around. This is usually more of an issue with gravity/drop feed printers but can also occur on front feed style too. Usually 20lb stock is good, but if thats doing it, you can try going to a 24lb.

My canon printer/copier does not feed paper in machine. makes all the sound but wont feed. help

1. Try cleaning the paper feed rollers

Instructions how to clean the paper feed rollers.
If the paper feed rollers become dirty, they may not be able to properly feed paper due to the feed roller's slippage.
If paper does not feed correctly, perform the following to clean the paper feed rollers:
  1. Open the Printers folder.

    - For Windows XP Home Edition : Click/Select 'Start,' 'Control Panel,' 'Printers and Other Hardware,' and 'Printers and Faxes.

    - For Windows XP Professional Edition : Click 'Start' and 'Printers and Faxes.'

    - For Windows Vista : Click 'Start,' 'Control Panel,' 'Hardware and Sound,' and 'Printers.'

    - For Windows 2000 : Click/Select 'Start,' and 'Settings,' then 'Printers.'
  2. Right-click the icon of the printer for paper feed roller cleaning, and select 'Properties' from the displayed list.
  3. Click the 'Maintenance' tab and click 'Roller Cleaning'.

Remove all sheets of paper from the rear tray, then click 'OK'.
  4. Confirm the message, and click 'OK'.
Note: Clicking 'OK' will activate the paper feed rollers 30 times. This activation will take about 90 seconds. Do not perform other operations until this operation has finished.
  5. Confirm the message, and click 'OK'.

After the continuous paper feeding operations in step 5 have finished, load three sheets of plain paper and click 'OK'.

  6. Confirm the message, and click 'OK'.

Note: “Feed roller cleaning is completed” message is displayed when the paper is fed and ejected.

    Click 'OK'.
Roller Cleaning is completed.

Paper feed not move

If I recall the KXP series, it is a track feed printer as well as sheet feed, there should be a lever on the top that you can move to different positions, one position is for feeding paper without the rollers, when the lever is placed in a different position it releases the rollers so the printer can feed the paper. The open position is for installing paper or clearing paper jams. Also if I recall, the lever is on the right side near the roller on the end. When you move the lever, and turn the roller, you fill feel it grab the paper. There is also a switch on the front for line feed and page feed allowing you to tear off a page and then pressing it again will reverse the paper to print position.

There is NO paper jam- and the paper won't feed. We have taken the printer apart- NOTHING hung up- gears are okay- still won' feed paper.

hi...

Most of our printers pull the paper down on one side slightly faster than the other. The printer hardware should even this out when printing. You should also ensure the paper meets the automatic feeder requirements of the printer.

If printing is skewed, feeding multiple pages or jamming, please follow these instructions (use a regular letter size paper to test after doing the steps given below):

Please check to ensure there is nothing obstructing the paper feed mechanism down inside the printer where it is not easily seen. If there is nothing obvious, unplug the printer and remove the paper. Open the front cover and look above the steel rod. You should see a conveyor belt with rubber teeth on it, like a fan belt. Take the bottom part of that belt and move it gently to the left. The cartridges should come out with it. Make sure the cartridges can move fully from one side of the printer to the other. Check also the output rollers on the bottom of the printer for any blockage. If it is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot. Turn the printer off. Next take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the paper feed slot (The manual paper feed slot is preferred, but the automatic feed will do if there is no manual paper feed for this printer) until it comes completely through the printer to the back of the exit rollers. Move it up and down and slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate this may work it loose or you may have to feed the envelope through the front rollers and push your way backward (please be careful here).
Next, take a damp warm cloth and clean the rubber rollers in the automatic sheet feeder. Dust may be coating the rollers there and as they become less tacky, they cannot feed paper correctly.

try it out....

Printer will not grab paper

Check to make sure the paper sensor tab moves freely. You might try air dusting around the paper pick-up rollers to make sure the area is free from any accumulation of dust, dirt, or paper residue.

Lexmarkx73 Won't feed paper through while printing

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button. (On the X83, press the Select button.)
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.
