Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

Router won't broadcast

Router power was disconnected today. After powering back up, it won't broadcast. I have internet and have pinged the IP address. all 4 packets were sent and received. I've tried unplugging the modem, and the router and shutting down the pc and then plugging back in the modem, the router, and turning on the pc.. still not broadcasting. The WLAN light and the internet light on the router are blinking.

The Internet and WLAN lights are blinking. That is normal.
Do you have any computer connected to the router ? If that computer is able to go online and only wireless is not on line then you will need to check the wireless settings of the router. For this you will need to open the router set up page. If you are not on line on all the computers then make sure that your computer is able to go on line through the modem. connect the computer directly to the modem and check the Internet through the modem. If that is working then you will need to check the Internet settings of the router.

Use your computer's web-browser to connect to the web-server "inside" the router.
Check the 'WAN' settings -- they seem to be OK, since you have Internet access.
Check the 'Wireless' settings, or just rerun the Wireless Configuration Wizard, to rebuild your wireless network.

Working on a SMC router. There was a power failure and the ADSL modem can talk to the internet and the router doles out IP addresses but no internet access from the computers?


Check the computer's network interface card by opening the command prompt and typing ping 127.0.0.1 If you get back 4 replies 100% then ping router's and modem's IP addresses. If all are working. Try resetting your devices unplug your modem, router, and turn off your PC. Wait about 2 minutes. In this order, turn on your modem, wait 15 secs, turn on your router wait 15 secs, now turn on your PC.

I have an acer aspire and it won't connect to our


First check the ip address:

1.Go to the dos prompt and type in ipconfig
2. An invalid ip address is anything that start off with 169.xx.xx.xx
3. If it give you an a valid ip address, go to a blank line on the dos prompt
4. Type ipconfig/release..press enter. A lot of information is going to come up
5. Go the next blank line in dos type ipconfig/renew.
6. Then power cycle the modem and computer by turn the modem completely off and then turn off the computer for 3 minutes. Then turn the modem and computer back on. Check to see if this work.

My router will not connect the power light keeps blinking


Check this tip out from Linksys. It is for a G VPN Router but you could use the same steps to troubleshoot. Title: Resolving Blinking Power or Diag LED on a Linksys Wireless-G VPN Router Article ID: 4982 If the Power LED on your Linksys router is blinking, this means the device is not ready. It should go off once the router completes its diagnostic test. If the Power LED won?t go off, it indicates that there?s a possible hardware problem with the router. To resolve this, you will need to perform five steps: Resetting the Router Assigning Static IP to the Computer Pinging the Router Accessing the Router?s Web-based Setup Page Updating the Router?s Firmware For instructions on how to reset the router, follow the steps below. Resetting the Router Hold in the RESET button at the back of the router for 30 seconds. Unplug the power to the router then plug it back in. If after resetting the router and the Power LED is still blinking, try resetting the router again for another 30 seconds. Then proceed with assigning a static IP address on the PC. For instructions, follow the steps below. Assigning a Static IP Address on Your Computer Most of the time, if the power LED on the router is blinking it loses its ability to assign IP addresses to the PCs connected to it, which is why you need to assign the computer a static IP address. Troubleshooting Internet Connection Problems The purpose of this section is to give general tips
on troubleshooting your Internet Connection

While there are many possible configurations, I'll try and cover the most common ones.

Making Sure You Have Correct IP Information
Basic PING Tests
Browser Configuration

Making Sure You Have Correct IP Information 1. Make sure you have the correct IP scheme for your network. This would include the:
  • IP Address
  • Subnet Mask
  • Default Gateway
  • DNS Servers
2. There are a few ways you can see what IP addresses are being assigned.
But generally for:Win9x - Start / Run / command
Windows2000/XP/Vista - Start / Run / cmd
The run IPCONFIG /ALL. A sample where a router is used is in the following graphic.

If you have a router, common examples would be:
192.168.0.x, 192.168.1.x or 10.0.0.xIf you are directly connect to your DSL or Cable Modem, you should have an IP address that would correspond to something from your ISP.
What you don't want to have is something like 169.254.x.x. This means you are not getting and IP address assigned and needs to be resolved first.
4. Subnet Mask:
Also make sure you have the correct Subnet Mask. Most commonly this would be 255.255.255.0 5. Default Gateway:
Make sure you have the correct Default Gateway IP address.
With a router, this is typically the IP address of your router. 6. DNS Servers:
Make sure you have the correct DNS Servers. Sometimes this is the IP address of your router, so it would be the same as the Gateway IP.
Sometimes (as in this example), it is the actual DNS servers used by the ISP.
7. Possible causes for not getting an IP address assigned are:1. Defective cable, network card or port on the router. Make sure you are using all known working components.
2. Your router is not configured for DHCP (which would automatically be assigning IP addresses).
But you need to have this correct before proceeding.
Basic PING Tests 1. This and can be done from that same command prompt you used to run IPCONFIG 2. Try pinging the router's IP addresse.g. ping 192.168.1.1
If you get a reply, then your connection to the router is working.
If you don't get a reply, then you need to double check your network card, cable, port on the router. You might also see if any other computers on the network can do the same.
3. Try pinging an external site by IP address e.g. ping 4.2.2.1
If you get a reply, then you have a connection to the Internet.
If you don't get a reply, there are several things you can try:
1. Double check that the router is connecting to the Internet. Typically you can access the router through your web browser and check it's status.
2. Take the power off your DSL/Cable modem and Router. Plug the modem back in a wait a minute or so. Plug the router back in and wait a minute or so. Then restart your computer.
3. Winsock Fix - It is possible that the Winsock Registry entries have gotten corrupted. This is getting to be a more common problem. See WINSOCK FIX for clean ones you can download
4. Try pinging an external site by Namee.g. ping www.yahoo.com
If you get a reply, then you have a connection to the Internet and DNS is working
If you don't get a reply, there are several things you can try:
1. Double check your DNS entries
2. You many need to use the same DNS IP address that your ISP or Router is using.
3. On rare occasions your ISP has problems with their DNS servers. But that is rare in comparison to misconfigured computers.
If your PING tests work but you are having problems browsing sites on the Internet 1. If you could ping external sites by both IP address and Name, but cannot browse the web, likely your web browser is misconfigured. 2. Double check that you don't have an incorrect or not needed Proxy server assigned.For the Internet Explorer - Tools / Internet Options / Connections tab / LAN settings button. Uncheck both Automatically detect settings and Use a proxy server for your LAN.

Can connect to 2wire, but can't browse


What is the ip address you got from the 2wire router. ??

Try release and renew for new ip. Clear the cache and temporary internet files, and then try pinging the router's gateway ip and check . If pinging. then ping any website's ip address. if successful then try going online. Else you need to power off and power on your router and then try again.

When I hook up my router to my main computer I am switched to working off line. This did not used to happen


try these steps...in this order.

This assumes that the pc goes online when plugged into your cable/dsl modem directly.

  1. turn off your pc.
  2. disconnect pc from router and router from modem. unplug power from modem for 30 sec.plug it back in and wait one minute.
  3. unplug power from router for 30 sec.plug it back in and wait one minute.
  4. plug an ethernet cable from modem to wan/internet port on the router and wait one minute.
  5. Connect pc to any lan port on the router and start it up.
  6. If still no good, try the other lan ports on the router
  7. if still no good, try with different ethernet cables.
  8. If still no good, reset router to factory settings. Do you get an ip address? Can you ping the router? Can you log into it with a web browser? If you reset it and can't get an ip/ping/login then the router is dead and should be replaced. If it's less than a year old, contact the manufacturer for a free warranty replacement.

My linksys wrt54GC stops working when connect internet cable


There might be a reason that the default gateway of your router and the internet are same.So first connect your router to any one of the computer and open the router page by typing 192.168.1.1 (username should be left blank and password-admin).Then on the basic setup page change the Local IP address to 10.10.10.1,scroll down and click save settings.Now power off your router and connect internet cable to internet port of the router.Switch on the power of router and now try to go online. If you are unable to go online then connect your computer directly to the modem and download the new firmware from www.linksys.com/support and connect your computer then to the router,upgrade the firmware of the router and try to go online by connecting internet cable.

Can't access configuration for Wgr614 v5 Netgear Wireless router


Since you cannot ping the router, first thing to do here is to reset the router by pressing the reset button of the router for 30 seconds while power is On and then after the reset power off the router for 5 seconds and then when the router is already power On try to ping the IP of the router using a computer that is wired to it if still cannot be ping better contact Netgear support if the router is still underw arranty and have it replace...

Power indicator keep on blinking


hello!

blinking power light after firmware upgrade sometimes indicates that the upgrade is not sucessful or the firmware that you load is incorrect.

-- try to reset the router for 30secs and check if the power light is still blinking
-- if its still blinking check your pc's ip address while connected to the router
-- if the ip address of your pc is invalid (169.x.x.x.) turn to manually assign static ip address to your computer and check if you can ping your routers ip address
-- if you can ping the routers ip address, upload the correct firmware to your router
-- if you cant ping your routers ip address still, reset the router again and try to ping the routers ip address once again
-- try to change port and cables
-- if still unable to ping the routers ip address, chances are that the router might be defective now
