Can't get pc input to work

Hooked gateway laptop to tv with vga cable and can't get picture. Have tested cable and computer and they are working but the tv will not recognize the input. In fact, pc input is greyed out in the menu so the tv doesn't even recognize the pc input. Am I not doing something right or could the pc input on my tv be bad?

One thing you might want to try is altering the screen resolution on you laptop. If you are feeding the TV with a resolution higher than it can handle or in the wrong aspect ratio it is quite possible that it will not display a picture.

Now i assume you have connected the Computer using a VGA cable ( 15 D pin connector )bobhifi_41.jpgbecause if you had used an HDMI cable the sound would have come by default. The VGA cable only carries analogue Video signals. So you will have to get 3.5 mm phono to 2 RCA cable to connect the sound out of the PC to the TV's audio in socket ( next to the VGA socket labeled audio IN )

It sounds like you are using the wrong audio input jack, by chance are you using the audio cable with RED and WHITE RCA to mini stereo plug ?
If you look at the VGA port on the the TV, you will see a small mini phone jack (PC audio) close by, that will be for the sound input when TV is in PC mode.
Please verify for me.

Connecting wire between pc to tv

Hi there,

Depending on what type of TV you have, connecting your PC to your TV shouldn't be very expensive. Most newer models of TVs come with a VGA input.

Your computer has a cable to go to the computer screen, this cable is known a s a VGA cable, it looks like this:

Your TV might have a VGA input which looks like this:

All you have to do is unplug your VGA cable from your computer screen and plug it in to your TV so your cable will go fro your computer to your TV instead of your computer to your screen.

If your TV doesn't have a VGA input, it will have an RCA input which looks like this:

You can buy a VGA to RCA cable which will allow you to connect your computer to your TV which looks like this:

Samsung TV can't detect connection to laptop

Make sure you set the laptop to display at a resolution the TV can display, it seems best to start with 1024x768 then work up.

If you are using a VGA - HDMI converter it is possible you will not get a picture.

You should be able to set the laptop to 1024 x 768, plug it into the TV, select PC input on the TV remote, and the picture should appear.

If not, then check you have the monitor output on the laptop switched on, test it with another monitor to be sure.

If all the above still fails to work, and you've checked the cable the TV has a fault.

I hope this helps.

LCD TV and VGA output

The resolution and refresh rates have to match exactly to the TV for it to work correctly with the computer.

The newer computers are using much faster refresh rates by default. Their default resolution is also different.

Consult the manual for the TV and see if the computer's external monitor output can be set to match to what the TV exactly requires. Both the refresh rate and resolution are critical.
