Its simple as copying file from one drive to other drive or one folder to other folder.

Step 1). just insert your memory stick to your systems USB port.

Step 2). double click on My Computer icon.

it will open my computer window. In this window you will find the icon for your memory stick. Just double click on that icon it will be open.

And simply you can copy whichever folder or file you want to copy to your computer.

Attempting to transfer info on hard drive installed in 2.5sata enclosure to laptop

If you are only transferring data and not installed programs or the complete operating system, just open an explore window each in the storage drive and the target hard drive side-by-side, select all the data you want to transfer, and drag and drop it onto your drive (in whatever folder you want to make). Done in a few minutes.

How can I confirm that the data is transferred from my computer to the Maxtor hard drive?

The best way to confirm that 100% of data has copied from one location to another is to use a "checksum". There is a free Windows program that can do this, download it here:

Then click "Download" on the right hand side and download the Zip file containing the setup program and run the program.

A checksum is when a "hash" of two files or folders are compared. A "hash" is like a fingerprint of a file or a folder. So if 2 folders have the same hash, they have the same data and are identical. This way you can know you copied your data correctly to your USB hard drive.

Hope this helps.

I have a PC Dell Dimension 2400 with a hard 40 GB

Basically when you install a new boot drive you need to install Windows operating system on the new hard drive, also the device drivers (eg video, audio, modem, LAN etc), your programs and data. The reason programs has to be installed is because the installation process copied DLL files to the System folders and makes changes to the registry.
You can only copy your data onto the new hard disk.
To avoid copying your data to the new hard drive, you can set up the old hard drive as second hard drive (ie. slave drive), if you delete the redundant folders and leave only the data folders then you have an adddition 40Gb of disk space.

Need to transfer copied files to x301 after full restore

create a new folder in your hard-disk and first try to copy 1-2 files from the external hard-drive to the new folder (copy any data/work/images you have stored/created not any files of windows folder or root of c: drive)

if the above copy works then copy back all except the c: root and these folders - Windows folder, Document & settings, Program Files

Usb stick

Hi travlyn,

If you are using Windows XP or Windows Vista, you just need to plug it into a free USB port on your laptop or desktop computer. The OS will automatically find the hardware, then install it. A popup will show up asking what you want to do. You can select there open the folder to open up the contents of the drive. Otherwise you can just close this up and just goto MY COMPUTER and access the USB stick from there.

The USB drive should be ready to receive data, you can actually drag or drop files into it or copy paste the items into the drive. Or if you are making documents or spreadsheets you can directly use the drive to save files.

It's very easy, you should try it out once you're in front of your computer.

Hope this helps!

Peace! :)
