Try to turn the modem off, if the noise on the line disapears when the modem its off you need to contact you service provider in the INTERNET deparment regarding the noise on your line.
If you turn the modem off and the noise on the line is still there, you need to contact the PHONE deparment, they will send you a technician for free to resolve your problem, it's a problem with the line. ;)

if the speed was upgraded to ADSL 2 you need ADSL filters that match this. Check the model number of the ADSL filters and check the type of DSL is compatible with the Speed change.

I have been offered a Netgear N150 DGN1000 Wireless ADSL modem Router new for only £25.00 from a friend, however it has a sticker on the box that says ''For BT Connections''. I wanted to know if this...

Well this product DGN1000 is a generic router supplied by Netgear and can be used with any ADSL/DSL ISP. Please ensure that you upload the latest firmware for this router from the netgear support site and then you can use it with other ADSL/DSL ISP.
Hope this allows you to resolve the issue. If you need further assistance then let me know.

Dropping internet connection

Where is your exact location?  You listed ATT DSL so I assume you have ATT DSL as your provider is this right?

I had them for years and I had the same problem.  But its not your setup or your equipment, it is your service provider. You may be on the fringe area of the line signal.  Any drop of power in the line which is already low voltage will cause it to drop out.  The more customers using it the slower it will go.

All you can do is this:

1. check all the house phone lines for aging. If old replace the lines because they cause noise in the lines which degrades the DSL signal.
2. Check the connections at the phone box for signs of corrosion.  Clean the contacts and wiring and reconnect.
3. Make sure you have filters on "ALL" your phones.

4. AFTER you do this( you have eliminated any issues with your equipment)  then contact your service provider and tell them you are getting dropped connections daily.  They should send some one out within a few days to check the signal strength.  They also can check it while you are on the phone with them but not as effectively as them coming out.

Good luck
