Static, can be caused by a number of things, all very annoying on a wireless phone. Now you can try setting the antenna/base up higher, sometimes it is caused by, local interference, or by, bad battery connection,, please check that, sometimes, it can be on the actual "Line" to your house, have it checked for integrity. A bad solder joint on the bass unit. Bad Power Connection, in the Jack, , or bad Power Supply, bad earths. Low battery can also cause this. Sometimes, the "Electret" microphone, can do this too. I guess you will have to work, through the list eliminating what you can. Experiment, with standing in differing places, and see if anywhere is static free or less, if this is so, it maybe atmospheric, too. If you do everything, and nothing really helps, then most likely, your base unit, has gone somewhat faulty, usually a bad solder joint.

The most common cause of noise or static on a cordless phone is interference: other wireless or electronic devices can radiate energy that disturbs the radio signal between the base and the handset (much like overhead power lines can cause static on your car radio).

Some common household sources of interference are:

  • electrical appliances, especially microwave ovens
  • computer equipment, especially wireless LAN equipment and DSL modems
  • radio-based wireless devices, such as room monitors, wireless controllers, or wireless headphones or speakers
  • large florescent light fixtures (particularly ones that give off a “buzzing” noise)
  • other services that use your phone line, like alarm systems, intercom systems, or broadband Internet service
Check near the base unit for the source of interference.
Try moving the base away from a suspected source, or try turning off / unplugging the source.
If you have any services that might use your phone line, see if you need a filter on the phone line. The most common type of these services, DSL broadband internet, often causes telephone static. Often DSL technicians leave DSL filters for their customers. If you have DSL internet, but not a DSL filter for your phone line, call your DSL provider or look in any electronics store.

I hope that helps.

Cordless phones

1) unplug all phones
2) plug them back in and check line.
If you still have the issue,!take a corded phone with. Phone jack coed to your box on the outside of the house. Usually gray, unscrew the first box - you'll see modules there - the one with the last four of your phone number is the module we'll use. Follow the directions on the box to open that module - plug your phone into the module. Here's the important thing - if you don't hear static, then the problem is from inside your house. If you call att to come out they will charge you - but that's the whole unplug the phones and centralize your base better. However, if you still hear static in the outside box, it's an att issue and have to come out at no charge.

Static and cant hear on the phone

Plug in a headset to the phone. Does the call sound normal with the headset? If so, you may have a bad speaker on the phone.

Phone line doesn't ring

First, lets get rid of the static. Try Feature #86. This will turn off background music. When a music source is not attached you get static.

Enter programming by using Feature XXX66344 password 266344. The display should show "Terminals&Sets" press the top right button with an indicator in the display. The display should show "Show set: ____ enter the extension number that you want to check or program. The display will show ***:name. Press the top right button three times. The display will show Show Line:____ with options to Scan or List. If you select Scan it will show the lines assigned to that phone. If you select List it will start with the first line in your phone system showing one of four states 1- Unassigned, 2- Ring Only, 3- Appear&Ring, 4- Appear only. Change the selection on the line by using the CHNG soft button. This is where line assignments are changed from the four states for each extension.

The only other thing that will keep an extension from ringing is "Do Not Disturb" or DND. Feature 85 and #85 will turn this feature on and Off.

On incoming calls rings once then stops then person calls again comes thru. also after talking sometime u can hear the system dialing? there are 7 phones in the house one has the FWD light on? could...

The first symptom of an incoming call ringing once then stopping is called trip and ring which is caused by a partial short on the phone line. The second symptom is called crosstalk caused by the two phone lines being shorted to each other. The service provider is most often the cause of these troubles. Often this type of trouble happens during wet weather or shortly after. The third symptom of static on the line cna also be caused by the same conditions. All three symptoms are likely caused by the same trouble from the service provider. Advise you report the trouble to your service provider.

I can fax out but I can't receive faxes.

What happens if you dial your fax number the way you make a normal voice call? Does the fax machine pick the line up? Can you hear it making electronic noises? Do you hear any static or line noise?
Try also putting a regular phone on the fax line and attempt to make voice calls to test the lin quality. Listen for static, noise, volume issues. Report problems to your telecom company if you have trouble in voice calls.

Volume low on all four speakers, some static (amp or head unit problem)

I would check the amp first, especially if you have very low sound on the speakers. Before amps were made, bad output transistors would create the same effect.

Static during calls

My 8320 had the same problem as daisy's. In addition to that..my camera's colors were wacked. Like negative images or something...Anyways..I noticed when my phone was plugged in, the problems disappeared. So i purchased a new (non-OEM..paid like 15$) battery online and the problems disappeared. Has been fine for about two months since doing this.

Incoming calls loaded with static and I cannot hear them clearly

Try connecting line 2 where 1 is connected. If there is no static it is youre system ie phone itself. If there is static there is definately a problem with youre line. Static can usually be attributed to old lines that the moisture barrier has been compramised. If the line is under youre house or in the walls you may have to pay for it. But if it is the companys line it is their issue.
