If your freezer is cold but your fridg isn't then you have a defrosting problem. behind the back wall of your freezer you will probably find a very large mass of ice. unplug your ref and using hot water melt the ice. you will need several large towels for this since it will make a mess. once the ice is cleared if you have an ohm meter you can check the defrost element you are looking for continuity( closed circiut) if that tests ok find the defrost termintor(also called a bi-metal defrost) it is about the size of a quarter and is usually located in the top left side of the freezer. It will be clipped to one of the tubes. if it looks like it has popped then it is bad. If the bi-metal looks ok you will need to hook the element back up and go to the control panel in the fridge. looking up at it you will see a small hole and a gear inside that you can turn with a slotted screwdriver. turn it until you hear it click and the fans stop running. if the defrost heater comes on then change the defrost timer(the part you just turned)

You must have an air flow problem between the freezer and fresh food sections. Probable causes: Bad evaporator fan Ice buildup between compartments Defrost failure ice buildup around fan clogged defrost drain, ice slab formed between compartments. This manual for apartment refrigerators tells how to get into 4 styles of top mounts.

The freezer keeps defrosting.....starts to cool down then back in defrost mode again. Also the bottom of the fridge is not keeping things cold anymore. Could you please help me on what could be...

the defrosting mode could a problem with the defroster timer. as for the bottom one if the top is not cooling the bottom one wont either. the freezer fan is what also keeps the bottom frig cool. the defrost timer should be on the bottom frig close to the ligth.

Sounds like the defrost drain has become iced over or clogged. This is why the ice builds up.
