Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

1 Answer

Our Kenmore washer continues to be in the "wash" mode even when the knob is on the "spin" cycle. We've reset it by turning the knob all the way around, and pushed-in and pulled-out the knob, but it doesn't seem to help. Thank you for your help!

The problem would be in the timer contacts. The timer is the device that is located behind the knob you are turning.

If you supply me with the model number that should be on the rim visible with the lid open, I can get you an approximate price that a replacement part would run.

Can you double check that number for me please, the 22622 part is not coming up here? Thanks!

  • Philip Apr 24, 2010

Sorry, I did find it. This is a part made by Whirlpool for Kenmore, the part number is 3952955 and is about $73.00. It is not too hard to replace but requires a bit of mechanical ability. If you want to do it yourself I would be happy to assist.

  • Philip Apr 24, 2010

I would have to send you step by step instructions that I can create for you. I have some pictures that might help but it would mostly be text.

  • Philip Apr 24, 2010

You can find the part at local appliance parts dealer, check the yellow pages in your town or you can order from multiple places on line like and click on the parts link.

I will try to detail the how to here to see if you feel comfortable in making the repair.

    - Unplug the machine.

    - Snap the two side covers off the console (part numbers 8 and 11 in the image)

    - Take the two screws from the end caps (part 7 and 10) the console will lift up

    - On the back of the time (part 19) use a needle nose pliers to pull on the black tab in the center. This will allow you to pull the knob and bezel (12 and 13) off.

    - Remove screw 24 and release the tab on 19 and the part will hang from the wire harness

    - Remove the bundle of wires from 19 by releasing the tab on the wire harness

    - Reverse this process and enjoy a washer that runs like new again

  • Philip Apr 24, 2010

That is alright, just give me a good rating and I will be happy and pass on a smile to someone tomorrow for me!

I have a Kenmore washer #11026002010. I am having problems with the water overfilling and not progressing to the next cycle. Would you have info on the fault codes and also the recalibration procedure

Does it sound like it wants to spin? If so more than likely the motor coupler broke causing your washer to not spin. It is one of the most common parts that fail.

Anyhow Sears is the best bet for your answers they even list all the steps needed to trouble shoot.

Washer repeats entire cycle - does not stop at end of spin cycle.

It is possible that presence of moisture within the START button can trigger the cycle to continue as it keep the processor to continue the wash cycle,Hence you must remove the panel and board after disconnecting the wiring harness and use a hair dryer to warm off any presence of moisture on the panel and board. Do it with time to ensure there is no moisture within the panel.
I think this must solve the issue. Repeat the work many times as sometimes moisture and dirt together might form a conductive bond to trigger as a pressed on switch. If possible open panel to clean switch pad.

Washer (total care system) is making a humming noise even though I've taken all the clothes out of it. The agitator works, but there's a humming noise. I've stopped it and re-started it, but...

1 of 2 things could be the trouble.

Does the washer drain properly if you manually turn the control knob? If not then this sounds like your pump is either plugged with possible lint and can't move or has died completely. 99% chance pump is the problem and 99% chance it can be an easy fix by cleaning the pump where the Drain Line is attached, worst case scenario pump is to be replaced, but not a overall expensive fix and most can do it without a technician.

Second problem is possibly the time itself, but if the washer is going through all cycles except spin then pump is likely the culprit, cause in spin cycle the machine has to drain the water from the unit as it spins, if it cannot the washing machine basically stops and cannot complete the cycle.

One way to tell for sure if the pump is the problem. When the machine enters the spin cycle and starts making that noise. Manually turn the dial a little bit till it passes the spin cycle, if it continues to wash till it hits the final spin/drain cycle then stops again...your pump is in need of help.

Please get back to us if you have further query or else please accept the solution.

Kenmore model 110.24642300 will not cycle through wash cycles...will stay stuck in wash cycle until the knob is manually turned to rinse/spint/etc. Would this be a bad knob or timer or both? Thanks!

Start a cycle and remove the knob. If it still stays in agitation mode and won't advance to the spin, then you have a bad timer, or no power to the timer motor(very unlikely). If your washer goes through the cycles with the knob off then you have a bad timer knob. I have seen stripped knobs causing the timer to bind up and not advance. Good Luck Appliance Specialists

Washer fills up but doesnt start washing

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

The first thing I'd do is see if the washer will continue it's cycle in a different mode. i.e. Try to start it in a different cycle, or try to move the timer knob to the spin cycle.

Following is a Whirlpool / Kenmore installation and maintenance PDF on how top load, direct drive washers work.$FILE/L-55.pdf

It has a troubleshooting section as well as detailed descriptions of how this type of washer works.
