I shut my computer down at night, but can't get on Internet next

I always shut my computer down at night, but the in the morning when I turn it on I cannot get on the internet until I turn off the power strip so that both router and modem shut down. I have been unable to find an off/on switch on either of these. It's like they need to be shut off to be rebooted. What's the problem?

You didn't follow what I said. I said, the only way I can get on the internet is to have the router and modem shut off prior to turning everything back on. I agree with you, they normally don't need shut down, BUT I cannot get on the internet until I shut them down. That is the problem. Thanks anyway.

There is no reason to shut down either the router or modem. My router and modem has power 24/7 with no issues for many years. Just leave them powered.

    Try this.

    Powers up you’re system.

On the back side of the modem and the router is a little reset button. Unplug power cable from each. Take a pen and press the reset button in for ten seconds and release. Re-connect the power cable to the modem and than re-connect the power cable to the router. Check for internet. (Give windows a minute before checking for internet). Than re-boot you're system. Check for internet again. Still not functioning? Plug the router and the modem directly to a wall outlet but not the same outlet as the power strip.

Some where from the wall outlet to the power strip and on to the router and the modem these two are loosing AC power.

Open Control Panel, Power Options, set to High Performance, open Change Plan settings, open Change Advanced Power settings, set Sleep and Hibernate to Never, adjust advanced settings to your preference. Always shut down your computer when not in use, it will last longer, If you don't have a UPS, will help protect against power surges.

Hello,

First use the following steps:

Turn off the system and disconnect power cables.
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds
Reconnect power cables and try to turn it on.

If it remains same, the next step will be to turn off the system,
Disconnect power cables

Did you try the disk on a different computer to make sure the disk is functioning?
And if using a laptop, make sure that power is not an issue, an external power supply or 2 USB ports are always required.

Frozon screen

Always use CRTL/ALT/DELETE to shut it down when something like that happens.
It damages the HDD if you do not shut it down correctly.
Unplug the power cable from the computer and let it sit over night. Plug it back in.
is your computer XP or Vista?
please let me know.
Thanks!

When I boot up the screen is all colors and lines

It sounds to me like your cable is loose to the lcd or the video card is not properly 100 percent seeded into the mother board. Prolly the cable in one way or the other, perhaps bad cable.
