New users get to try the service completely Free afterwhich it costs $6 per call and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

HOW TO INSTALL FROM SOURCE IN LINUX

HOW TO INSTALL FROM SOURCE IN UBUNTU 9.10
Installing from source in linux is not very easy...... but once you know what to do, then it becomes a very easy task.

STEP 1 Tar.gz and Tar.bz2 Packages
The installation procedure for software that comes in tar.gz and tar.bz2 packages isn't always the same, but usually it's like this:
1.Download the tar.gz or tar.bz2 package
2.Extract the file
3.Open to the terminal
4.Use the cd command to change to the directory where the package is extracted
5.Use the following:

$ ./configure
$ make
$ make install

Without Using The Extraction Method
Open to the terminal
Run the following:
$ tar xvzf package.tar.gz (or tar xvjf package.tar.bz2)
$ cd package
$ ./configure
$ make
$ make install

!!!!THIS IS AWESOME!!! …... ISN'T IT?

STEP 2 .Deb Packages
Installation of .deb packages are in different forms or methods depending on the users understanding and how the user is flexible with the terminal.

1.Download the package
2.Extract the package
3.Change to the directory containing the package
4.Run the following

sudo dpkg -i package_file.deb

!!!! AND YOU ARE DONE!!!

LINUX X64 AND X86 BINARY INSTALLATION
1.Download the package
2.Open to the terminal
3.Use the cd command to change to the directory containing the package

FOR X86 PACKAGES.........
$ chmod +x filename-ver.*-linux-i686.run
$ sudo ./filename-ver.*-linux-i686.runFOR X64 PACKAGES........

$ chmod +x filename-ver.*-linux-x86_64.run
$ sudo ./filename-ver.*-linux-x86_64.run

where ver is the version number (the whole number before the decimal point... eg; the 4 in 4.103)
!!!!THANKS A LOT!!!!

Just installed Ubuntu Server. I need a graphical user interface, and downloaded one but computer still boots to dos-like interface. I don't know Linux commands. How to get GUI?

1-If you are presented with the command line after Linux boots, And after you login and end up at the command line prompt, you Type:
STARTX
The above command start up the GUI from the command line, and Get you in the Graphic GUI environment of Linux.
2-If you Linux computer start up with the GUI, and you are Taken to the desktop environment, there is a way to access the Linux command line.
From your desktop, you can go trough the startup menu and choose the " TERMINAL", and this will let you access the Command line. You will end you with a windows with the Command prompt from within the desktop.
In summary, accessing the command line interface or the GUI Can both be done on your Linux computer, weather your system is Setup to start with the Shell interface or the GUI.

I have a new canon mf4350d i need it to work with ubuntu

Download driver file Canon_UFRII_Linux_V1.90_EN.tar.gz from http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0035665.asp?model=

Unzip and extract the contents of the .tar.gz

You will find the following two files

cndrvcups-common-1.90-1.x86_64.rpm
cndrvcups-ufr2-uk-1.90-1.x86_64.rpm

Now open terminal and run the following commands

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install alien

Now in the terminal window, goto the directory containing the extracted files (cndrvcups-common-1.90-1.x86_64.rpm and cndrvcups-ufr2-uk-1.90-1.x86_64.rpm)
and enter the following command

sudo alien -k cndrvcups-common-1.90-1.x86_64.rpm
this will generate cndrvcups-common_1.90-1_amd64.deb

and

sudo alien -k cndrvcups-ufr2-uk-1.90-1.x86_64.rpm
and it generates cndrvcups-ufr2-uk-1.90-1.x86_64.deb

Now open the above files containing folder from file manager, choose the .deb files generated above, right click and choose install

and now goto System->Administration->Printing

Now choose "Add the Printer" and it will automatically detect and show the right driver. Install and enjoy printing.

I am a non technical new Ubunto user. There is no current facility in this archive manager to recognise or read rar zip files. Are you able to give me a simple lay step by step method description for...

en.kioskea.net/.../affich-107338-how-to-install-tar-gz-file-on-ubuntu
Go to this website above it has a tutorial of how to do it.

you need to download and extract the file, then you enter the folder that is extracted through terminal. Then you should see avaulability of folder src and file configure. if that is not the case i cant help you. but if those files are present then on the terminal you've opened type "./configure", after some lines coming and going, you should again type "make", and then at last "make install" then the program gets installed. if this not work as planned or some message shows to get dependencies you should get them first.
I think this will help : install from source tarbal in Linux see the linkhttp://tinyurl.com/l429yz

Pictosniff will not start

I'm not too sure how far you have gotten. Have you used make to install pictosniff? If you have, then the following probably won't do any good, but you can read it anyways.

So you extract it using tar in the command line, or using Archive Manager. Then you navagate there using command like and type make when you get inside the folder. Then you type sudo make install. It will ask for your password. This should install it. Then you can do sudo pictosniff to run it (although the program might not be called pictosniff after you install it).

How to download and install apache on linux5

Hi Follow the below procedures.
How to install and start the Apache or httpd service under Linux

by Milind

Q. How do I install and start the Apache or httpd web server under Fedora core or Cent OS?

A. Apache HTTP Server is a free software/open source web server for Unix-like systems and other oses.

Apache features configurable error messages, DBMS-based authentication databases, and content negotiation. It is also supported by several graphical user interfaces (GUIs) which permit easier, more intuitive configuration of the server.

Use rpm command to install Apache under Linux. You can also use up2date or yum command to install the same.
Task: Install Apache/httpd under Fedroa Core/Cent OS Linux

Type the following command if you are using Fedora or Cent OS Linux:

# yum install httpd
Now, start the Apache/httpd
# chkconfig httpd on
# /etc/init.d/httpd start
Task: Install Apache/httpd under Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Type the following command
# up2date httpd
Start the Apache/httpd
# chkconfig httpd on
# /etc/init.d/httpd start
Task: Debian Linux httpd/Apache installation

Use apt-get command:
# apt-get install apache2
# /etc/init.d/apache2 start
Task: Verify that port 80 is open

# netstat -tulpn | grep :80

You can also install httpd from CDROM with rpm command:
# rpm -ivh httpd*
Configuration

Your server is started but you need to configure and use Apache as per your requirement. /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf (RHEL/Cent OS/Fedora Core Linux) or /etc/apache2/httpd.conf (Debian / Ubuntu Linux) configuration file. Use text editor such as vi to edit file. This file is very well documented or read official Apache configuration documentation for more information.

Counter strike 1.6 - (Modes - Amx Mode X - Players -)

You can download the AMXMODX mods from www.amxmodx.org and click on "Downloads".

Download the amxmodx-base package for either Windows, Linux, or AMD64

AMXMODX Installation Tutorial in detail thanks to http://www.gnx.ro/tutorial-amxmodx.php

Upload Binaries

1. Go to the Metamod Website and download Metamod. You will want to get either the Windows DLL or the Linux SO (for either 32bit Linux or Linux on AMD64).

2. Extract the metamod file and upload or copy it to your server. It must be placed in <mod folder>addonsmetamoddlls.

Upload Binaries

In your mod folder, find the liblist.gam file. Open the file with a text editor, such as notepad. If you're using FTP or a control panel, you will need to download the file first. For Windows, find this line:

gamedll "dllsmp.dll"

Replace it with this line: gamedll "addonsmetamoddllsmetamod.dll"

For Linux, find this line: gamedll_linux "dlls/mp_i386.so"

Replace it with this line: gamedll_linux "addons/metamod/dlls/metamod_i386.so"

(Note: AMD64 is no longer supported for various reasons, please use 32bit)Save liblist.gam (and upload it over the old one if your server is remote).

Edit the file <mod folder>addonsmetamodplugins.ini. If it does not exist, create it. This file is your list of Metamod plugins. For Windows, add win32 addons/amxmodx/dlls/amxmodx_mm.dll

For Linux add: linux addons/amxmodx/dlls/amxmodx_mm_i386.so

Save (and upload) plugins.ini.

Installing AMXMODX

Go to www.amxmodx.org and click "Downloads".

Download the amxmodx-base package for either Windows, Linux, or AMD64. Extract the base package to your mod folder.

This will place AMX Mod X into <mod folder>addonsamxmodx. If you're uploading over FTP, you should extract it to a dummy location first (like your desktop). Go back to the AMX Mod X download site.

If there is an addon pack for your mod available, and you want to use it, download the addon package corresponding to your mod. As of this writing, addon packs are available for Counter-Strike/Condition-Zero, Team Fortress Classic, Day of Defeat, The Specialists, Natural Selection, and Earth's Special Forces.

Make sure you download the pack that corresponds to the server's operating system, either Windows, Linux, or Linux AMD64. Extract the addon pack to the same place as before, it should simply add more files to your AMX Mod X installation. If you're using FTP, upload the addons folder.

AMX Mod X should now be installed! You can type "meta list" in your server console to see if it was successful.
