In my experience, when the Isass.exe has been corrupt and fails to initialize....the operating system is usually toast, especially if it is a factory install or OEM windows installation. There arec a couple of things you can try, first take the drive out of the the acer one and attach it to another computer using an adapter, then run a check disc option on it. After that you can try to re-install the drive back in the acer and try booting off a windows disc and running the repair option on the operating system and sssing if that repairs the files. In some cases, you may have to go to the actuall install windows screen instead of the recovery console and after you hit F8 to agree to the install, you will be given one last chance at that point to choose repair....if you do not see that option, then most likely the current installation of windows is no longer recognized and will not be able to be repaired.

I'm having the same problem, not quite sure whether it is happending due to upgrade to IE 8 or Windows Installer 4.5 installation. Cleanup and re-install of Yahoo Messenger 10 won't help. The YahooMessenger.exe fails to initialize right during the installation process.
