Put the first System Restore CD into the drive.
Restart your computer.
Tell your computer to "change the boot order", to select the CD device as the _first_ device.

As part of the "System Restore", your disk-drive will be completely erased.

My intsul disc is sractched so bad that it will not install on to my new computer what do i do now??

Clean off the CD. Run some warm water over it and then rub it with a microfiber cloth.

Rub from the inside edge, straight out to the outside edge.

Do not rub in circles.

Continue this process until the CD is dry.

Pour rubbing alcohol over the CD. Shake the excess off and let it air dry.

When CD is dry, try playing it to make sure that it wasn't simply dirty and not scratched.

Hold the CD in the light and try to determine precisely where the scratch is located.

Scratches will usually be visible.

If you can see the scratch, place a small amount of plain toothpaste

(the type with baking soda works best) and fill in the scratch with it.

Take the microfiber cloth and get it only slightly damp.

Rub the excess toothpaste off by working from the inside edge of the CD to the outside edge.

Repeat this until it is clear.

If you are having a hard time locating the scratch, but rather see several scratches, using your cloth rub a thin layer of Vaseline over the CD.

Gently wipe it off by once again moving from the inside edge to the outside edge of the CD, in straight motion, not in circular motion.

The Vaseline will fill the cracks, allowing the tracks to be read by the laser beam.

Use an original Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

Lightly dampen it and run it along the CD in straight lines from the inside edge to the outside edge only.

Continue this process until the CD has been completely wiped with the eraser.

The magic erasers contain small microbead particles that can fill the crack

Things You'll Need

Rubbing alcohol

Toothpaste with baking soda

Microfiber cloth

Vaseline

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser can be purchased on Ebay

AU $2.78 +postage

AU $4.67

I just want to "Erase" everything and start over

You should have received recovery cds when yoou bought your desktop. One is for the XP installation and the second one is for the applications and drivers.
Just put the installation cd in and restart the desktop. You may have to hit a key when you see the message: boot from cd" on the screen.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response.

Thanks, Joe

Trying to restrore Hp zx5040us

Place the operating system cd in the drive and reboot the computer. Watch for the message "press any key to boot from cd" then press a key (I usually use the space bar). If you don't get the message about boot from cd you will need to change the boot order in the bios settings to make sure it looks to the cd/dvd drive first. Please be aware that this method will erase all personal files/folders and programs so make sure you have backed up first.

ERASE AND REINSTALL ALL SOFTWARE

First if it have a restore disk or it is design to restore to factory setting this is the most desirable method.

Second is installing the software from a scratch. But copy all drivers of it. Or do you have in hand the full driver cd of your unit. Your operating system and other installed software that are important to you. Backup files that is important to you.

You gonna need some bootable cd or disk.

*.GHO files are Norton Ghost images that are used by some OEM's to create a factory defuault image. When you restore this it should set the pc back to the same condition it was in when u purchased it however this will erase all your personal data on the drive.

If you are getting this error it means that the ghost image you are using to restore the PC is corrupted and cannot be used. eaither the CD is trying to read this data from a corrupted restore partition or the restore disk you have is bad (sometimes the disk may look fine- no scratches or anything and still be bad)

Try checking the disk for scratches or smudges but if you dont find any you can clean off the disk you will have to contact e-machines for a replacement disk.
