What you describing here is usually caused by one of the coils that 'opens' electrically when it gets hot. The coil is simply a small wire of significant length. A piece of the wire is broken, but when cold makes contact, as it heats up with use it separates and will not allow electricity to flow through it keeping the solenoid activated.

The cool down time may be a few minutes to a few hours to never between times it works the first time and the next time.

Whirlpool dryer heating sporadically?

Remove the lower front panel and turn dryer on. The ignitor should glow bright orange first. After Ignitor glows brightly the next thing will be the flame lighting as the gas valve opens with a click. All this should happen within about a minute or so.

If flame comes on but goes off quickly It's likely one of the Gas valve coils is opening a break in the coil as the coil heats up. This coil will shrink when cool and be able to run again. The coils are purchased as a kit.

If ignitor goes off and no flame comes on the coil kit is likely needed because one coil is fully broken inside its case. If flame goes on but shuts off shortly the problem is as described above and the kit is needed.

There is a flame safety assembly on the can above the burner. If the airflow is poor. the flame tip may activate that safety and turn the flame off. Or the flame switch may be open and not allow the flame to come on at all.

The Flame switch can be tested for continuity with an ohmeter but the valves may ONLY show bad with power applied and can not be tested with a meter as they will test good.. Good Luck

Frigidaire crown gas dryer runs fine but after about 10 minutes it turns itself off and i cant turn it back on for about an hour

From the description you give the most likely cause of this problem are bad gas coils or a bad gas valve.

You say you see the flames for 10 minutes before it stops heating but you don't mention if the igniter is continuing to glow. One thing we need to know is if the igniter continues to cycle on and off when the dryer stops heating.

There is a small square plug on the front panel you can remove to try and visually check if the igniter is glowing.

The problem won't be the thermal fuse or one of the thermostats. Once the fuse is open the dryer won't heat but it won't start to heat after 20 minutes.

After the dryer runs ten minutes and stops heating then check if the igniter is still cycling on and off. This is important because if the igniter is working then the thermostats and igniter are okay.

When the igniter glows at some point you might hear a click and the igniter would stop glowing. The click is from the flame sensor and after the click and the voltage is removed from the igniter at the same instant the voltage is applied to the gas coils and you should get a flame.

You might hear a hum, buzz or vibration from the coils when this happens. If the coils seem to react to the voltage but there is no flame then most likely the gas valve is bad. If the coils don't do anything then most likely the coils are the problem. The gas valve and gas coils can work for 10-15 minutes and then heat up and stop working till everything cools down.

One other thing I must tell you about the gas coils. Here is a link to the gas coils you will need. These are the new style that will last quite a bit longer the the older one. The coils are like the spark plugs in your car. The will need replacing in time due to wear. Below is a video to walk you thru the repair process.

I have a roper gas dryer model rdg4440sq0, the igniter glows then the flame lights. Then the flame goes out and doesn't light up again. When it cools down and i restart the dryer the igniter glows and...

If when the flame goes out ...Check to see that the igniter glows...If it glows and the gas does not light then replace the valve coils...Very common problem.....The coils are to weak to hold the valve open..

Kitchen aid dryer / heat flame not staying on after 20 secs

Sounds like your gas valve is fine, if it comes on at all, its good. A air flow restriction would cause a overheat condition and shut down the burner. Once it cools back down the burner would re-ignite and repeat the cycle. The sensor on the left of the burner is the flame sensor and the flame wouldn't come on at all if it was bad. You've already changed the coil kit so the valve is fine, disconnect the vent from the back of the dryer and see if the problem goes away. If the problem stays, I would suspect the thermostat. Good luck.

When I start my dryer, I have heat at first, but it shuts off after a short time for the rest if the cycle.

It sounds like you have a gas dryer . The coils on the burner valve need to be replaced . They get hot from the electricity going thru them , and one opens (shorts ) until the dryer cools down . It should then heat again for a few minuted , then stop heating but still run . Your timer will not advance either , if set on auto , unless dryer heats . Without the model number , cannot give you the part number , so take it with you to get the part . It comes with both coils in a pkg .

Flame comes on gas dryer, but does not stay on throughout cycle. clothes stay damp.

With the limited information you gave I will assume this is a gas dryer that the flame starts for a minute or so and then shuts off. This problem is going to be your safety valve coils...basically they get old and over time of heating then cooling develop a short when they heat up...It may appear the gas lights to start but then goes out until the safety valve coils cool back down. Here is a picture of the coils 57d5263.jpgThis The coils are mounted to the gas safety valve, This should solve your problem. Hope this helps, Please feel free to comment again if you have any further questions or concerns. Good Luck! Mike

Dryer comes on then will not continue heating

Hi, You will need to change the coils on top of the gas valve. Remove the screws on each side of the door opening and the fron panel will release. The door will hange there on the hinges. The two black doils on the gas valve will work early in the cycle and then after they get hot, they will not open later in the cycle.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further,

If your vent is clear (strong flow of air at vent outlet outside) then you have a bad gas valve. I have seen this a few times on LG gas dryers. You really only need one of the coils on the gas valve, but they are not available individually. You have to get the entire valve.
