Question about GE Profile JTP18 Electric Single Oven

When we press Bake on GE Profile oven, get a ''Loc'' light, no heat

When we press Bake on our GE Profile Oven, it displays an orange ''Loc'' light and a green ''on'' light on the control panel, but it doesn't heat up.

We reset the breaker but that didn't solve the problem.

  • Jim Hylton Apr 24, 2010

A neighbor finally showed me how to fix this. It did not involve either of the two suggestions: resetting the breaker or replacing the latch. Instead, I just had to hold down the 9 and 0 numeric keys for 3 seconds, and the "Loc" message disappeared. I appreciate your trying to help, but if I had replaced the latch as you suggested, it would have been wasted effort and would not have solved my problem. I don't think I should be charged for this solution because it was incorrect. Thanks.

The loc on light comes on when i push any button on my stove i do not know how to get it off

The LOC light indicates the front panel lock is on. This keeps you from starting the oven when cleaning the panel; it also keeps children from turning on the oven. To disable the lock, press and hold Bake and Broil Hi/Lo together for 2+ seconds until SF appears on the display. Then press Self Clean. Then press Start to exit the Special Functions menu.

GE appliance manuals are available from their site. Go to http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ and enter the model number of the appliance. Then click Search.

I hope this helps.

The LOC on messsage appears on the screen when we go toturn the oven on. NEED the OVEN. What could we do to fi it?

The control lock has been activated. This feature is useful when you are cleaning the panel so that you don't accidently start the oven or the self-cleaning cycle. Try pressing Bake and Broil Hi/Lo together for 2 seconds (or a bit longer). SF should appear in the display. Then press Self Clean and Start. (When you press Self Clean the LOC message should disappear.)

Manuals for most GE appliances are available here: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ . Enter the model number and click Submit. The direct link to the manual for the JTP18WWWW is: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=981140017.PDF .

I hope this helps.

The oven is stuck at LOC.

The locking motor has gone bad on the range. Common for this to happen after self clean. You will have to replace or have the lock assembly replaced for the stove to work again

Bottom oven doesn't heat after running self-clean cycle

Usually, when an oven won't heat, it's because the bake element is burned out. The bake element is the black, pencil- thick tube at the bottom of the oven. When the oven heats, the element glows red. This element has an expected life-span of several years. It may last for only one; it may last for many more. When the element burns out, you need to replace it.

or try doing this
1. Turn the clock selector knob to OFF
2. “Tweak” the oven control by turning the clock selector knob slightly to the left (counter clockwise). This may stop the flashing message/beeping and clear the display window.
