Question about Kenmore 22085 Bagged Canister Vacuum

Open Question

Kenmore Progressive model 116 will not start

It is completely dead, like a circuit breaker is off. It is not hot; just will not start. There is about 9 volts trickling through the connection that is made between the hose at the canister top where the hose normally connects. That is between the center negative post and either of the two outside posts.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

SOURCE: kenmore progressive canister Sweeper

I figured it out ..by pushing the lever down and pry a screw driver into three different spots on the top, to release the rewind bar. Looks like three little j hooks hold it down. It took a flashlight and night time for me to see it.

SOURCE: Kenmore vacuum manuals

I tried what reddevil6 suggested and was not able to get Sears to produce a manual. I would prefer an online manual but at this point I'm desperate enough to try anything.

SOURCE: Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum -Model 116 22812200.

hello... you might want to try checking the elbow or neck of the power nozzle for blockage. Remove the wand from the head and look through it. Also look through the wands . If there is no blockage, maybe there is a problem with you nozzle. Reattach all the parts and turn on the machine, turn on the power nozzle. Can you hear the other motor start? If so, check to see if the belt is turning. If it is not, and you definitely hear the secondary motor, then you need a belt. If it doesn't make any sound then, with the machine still running, press the button on the upper part of the power nozzle, this should reset your motor. I hope these tips helped ya, let me know, by giving feedback when asked. thank you, Rene (The Vacuum Doctor)

Open power cord housing on kenmore 116 vac

You can go to the Sears Parts Direct website and type in your Model number. It will return both an exploded view and parts list, with pricing for replacement parts. You can also order from them, and they can tell you stock status as well.

You can check for the manual at:

www.managemyhome.com

I would suggest checking the hoses for clogs. Especially the hose right after the carpet brushes. Don't forget to clean off your brush. Hope this helps.

There is actually an internal fuse in the vacuum. You may have blown this. The circuit board connected to the ON/OFF touch pad may be bad too but probably unlikely. There is also an overheat sensor that trips the vacuum off when it gets too hot. This could be bad preventing it from coming on too. All of these solutions, require you to open the vacuum to fix.

Beater brush will not spin and head drops down without using foot release

You didn't provide the model number so couldn't look it uo, but sOme of the progressive uprights have a circuit breaker on, it will trip when something catches on the brush roll, push it to see if it will reset, if there isn't one, get me the model, it will start 116.*********

Schematic

Sounds like the motor has gone bad. But you need to go to sears.com, click on the part link, put in your complete model number, usually starts with 116.************. Then a parts list will come up and if what you need is there, you can order it thru Sears. Sometimes underneath the rear top cover, is a schematic
