SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Canno 1000 d rebel card write protected

Remove the card from the camera and slide the write protect witch to "unlocked". If this doesn't work, the card is likely defective.

I have a Canon Rebel xs..that is reading card write protected...how do I clear that...the card is now empty and the pictures are on a disc

Take the memory card out of your camera and look at it. SD/SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Have canon rebel xs , getting card write protected error

If this is a Canon Rebel XS there is no memory card in a 35mm film camera If this is a Rebel XSi then generally this error is caused by the memory card lock switch here is a diagram to show the correct orientation of this switch

Also after you have unlocked the card you should format the memory card in the camera it is going to be used in. Failing to do so may produce other errors and possibly corrupt pictures and files Formatting clean the memory card to produce optimum performance between the camera and card

When I press the shutter half-way, it is my understanding I should see a red light in the window telling me it is focused....there's no light. Also, my BEEP is turned ON, but it never beeps??? Canon...

The Canon Rebel XS is a digital camera not film. Most of your problems may stem back to not having a media card installed. Here is a great link for the Canon EOS Rebel XS showing important functions http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/eos_rebel_xs-review/ If you have a media card installed and it has been formatted to the camera then the red light you mention will only flicker for an instant on your focus point, you got to be pretty quick to see it. The in focus light you want to see is a small green dot in the lower right corner of the viewfinder. This "green dot" needs to be solidly lit not flickering. When the camera has achieved focus the "beep" should sound, I suspect you haven't reached focus yet. Not focusing could be as simple as having the lens switch set to manual focus or the camera set to manual focus.

If that doesn't do it, try a different card and see what happens.

Can't un-protect Images in My Canon Rebel XS

It sounds like the locking switch on the side of the SD card is in the "locked" position. Remove the card from the camera and slide the tiny switch on the card to the unlocked position. That should do it.
