Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-32FS120 32" TV

1 Answer

Sony KV-20FS100 tv will not start up. Relay on the board clicks and will start up if power button is pressed multiple times. I checked for bad solder joints around flyback and other componets but none were found. Any common problems with intermittent start symptoms?

    Flashes 4 times

  • gene53 Apr 23, 2010

    Ok I will check it tomorrow and get back to you. Got to go to my Daughters wedding rehersal now. Thanks.

  • gene53 Apr 25, 2010

    Wedding is over and all went well. There is no 13 volts at pin 7 on the IC and just to let you know I am away from home(930 miles) working on my Mothers TV. As a result I do not have a scope with me. All I have is a fluke(187) multimeter to work with. I measured to one of the ground pins on the flyback and also to hot ground. Any other suggestions?

  • gene53 Apr 25, 2010

    Ok now I am confused. This Sony tv does have the AN5522 IC designated as IC 545.

  • gene53 Apr 25, 2010

    There are no scan derived voltages anywhere including IC 545. I can only read the plus and minus 110 volts off the primary power supply until the relay clicks a second time.

  • gene53 Apr 26, 2010

    Pin 4 has .41 volts and pin 2 has .04 volts ref to ground pin on flyback. Re-soldering did not help.

  • gene53 Apr 26, 2010

    I did that and volts remain the same low values

  • gene53 Apr 26, 2010

    R 596 and 598 check good and show no signs of having been hot

  • gene53 Apr 26, 2010

    IC001 pins have the 3.3 volst on them. Horz output has no voltage anytime.

  • gene53 Apr 26, 2010

    Voltages are all in order on IC001. I did not see a pulse voltage on pin 11 and do not have a scope to confirm the pulse. The chip is cool to the touch. Can you tell me where and how the B+ voltage is developed? I see there should be 135 volts on the flyback as raw B+ but not having a schematic with me and limited tools, I can not determine where the B+ is being developed. I am pretty sure it is not scan derived.

  • gene53 Apr 26, 2010

    Thanks for the link and the help. I am going back home to Ky and will check startup pulses with my scope then I will get back to you.

Hi,
Does tv standby light flashes if it fails to start up?
If yes, please count how many times it flashing with 3 second pause.
Thanks.

    Flashes 4 times
    ===========================================

    Right, 4 times flashing led shows problem in vertical deflection circuit and possible reasons are as follows:

    +13V is not supplied. (A Board) it is main board.
    IC545 is faulty. (A Board)

    Please check supply volts to vertical output chip (IC545) and cold/ dry solder joints nearby.
    It is 7 pin IC and number would be written on it is AN5522
    Let me know if you have additional question.
    Thanks.

    Good to know about wedding, nice.
    Please check following image of vertical output circuit in your tv and please ignore my first response of IC545 as it is not related to your model, its my mistake and sorry for that.
    Check volts on IC pin-2 and pin-4 as per mentioned in below image.

    Humm, my bad, I gave you KV-27FS100 tv schematics instead of KV-20FS100

    Here is correct schematics part of vertical output IC for KV-20FS100
    Sorry for inconvenience/ confusion.

    Shahid Electronics Apr 25, 2010

    Circuit application is almost same for both vertical ICs like pin configuration and volt supplies.

    read the plus and minus 110 volts off the primary power supply until

    ========================================================

    Just check +13V on pin-2 and -13V on pin-4 of IC545.
    Also check dry/ cold solder joints on IC pins, better to resolder it and nearby area.

    flyback. Re-soldering did not help.
    =================================================================

    OK, turn On tv by pressing channel button on tv remote then test volts quickly before tv shut down.
    If volts are present for a while then replace IC545

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Apr 26, 2010

    I did that and volts remain the same low values
    =============================================

    Right, please check safety resistors R596 and R598 that connected with pins 7 and 9 of flyback.
    I think these resistors are open and need to be replaced. Both resistors are 0.47 ohms 1/4 watt.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Apr 26, 2010

    R 596 and 598 check good and show no signs of having been hot
    ==============================================

    That means horizontal deflection is not working, check horizontal output transistor and make sure its getting +B volts.
    Resolder IC001 carefully and check VCC 3.3V on pins-13, 34 and 42 of IC001

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Apr 26, 2010

    IC001 pins have the 3.3 volst on them. Horz output has no voltage
    anytime.
    =====================================================================

    OK, check +5V on pin-6 of IC001 and Pin-3 and 4 should have at least 2 volts as its oscillator input.
    Check Reset signal at pin-11 of IC001, if all is OK then check temp of IC001 with your thumb etc as IC001 seems defective.

    ================================================================

    This tv has two power supplies, one is standby supply and other is main supply.
    Standby supply keeps alive system control chip and system control chip energize replay to turn on main supply. Q608 is relay drive.
    You can test 135V at C624 (10MF 160V) as +B that comes from D611, there is zener diode on +B line D614 as safety, check it if it could be shorted.

Sony KV-20Fs100. Same problen as #4620488. TV

Hi,
4 blink of power led shows problem in vertical deflection section and most probably vertical output IC is defective, replace it to fix the issue.
Regarding .rar file type of service manual files, download winrar software trail version from internet, install it and use it to unzip .rar file to get pdf manual file.
You wont get +B volts because tv switch to protection mode and power supply shuts down. Service manual has blinking standby led error code details as well.
Thanks.

Sony tv wont turn on, standby light just flashes

check for an open resistor on the power supply, it is actually a fusible resistor, (white) if open, then check the converter, some sets have two separate and some have it as one. it will be on a heat sink on the power supply. if shorted then check for a shorted horizontal output transistor and repair cold solder joints on the horizintal drive transformer which is the real cause of this problem

after it fails how many times does the red LED blink? check the board very closely for any cracked solder. and then check the main regulators. also look to see if you have any physically bad capacitors, they might look like they are exploding on the top.

Check soldered in fuse R607 in power supply circuit =
If open, replace it and bad converter xistors ( 2SC4834)
Next, replace shorted horizontal output transistor w/ first Quality.
Solder any / all bad connects,esp.horiz drive to base of horiz.
o / p xistor. Soldering is critical or it will blow up again......
