Question about Coby TF-DVD7107 Portable DVD Player

1 Answer

COBY TF-DVD7005 Hi All At Christmas here in Australia I bought myself a Coby TF-DVD7005 player and it has been great, plays all burnt discs and originals, plus MP3's, etc. The only problem it has playing are DVD's recorded from the television from my Samsung DVD Recorder, but that's a small price to pay for the cheapness of the model. I am very happy with it. However, last week I bought the same one for my friend in the USA from Amazon, it won't play any copies, just says Wrong Disc (I made about 50 for him recently from my library), and it has once played half of an original movie before shutting down on him. Trouble is it is only 3 days old and he has thrown the box away. I have written to Coby customer service, but as it's Easter I don't expect an answer real soon. I have a programme at home for uncracking DVD's to make them zone free, which I used on my Samsung but this Coby player isn't listed and I don't thinks zone free is the problem anyway?? Would appreciate your help, it sucks when you give a birthday present to somebody and it is broken :( Thanks Barbara

I hate to say it, but there are likely 2 issues that can cause the "Wrong Disk" error. The zone of the DVD's, as you mentioned, is a huge issue for distro. companies that sell the DVD's. They have been working with manufacturers for years to improve the protection of the zone restrictions. It is possible that the unit's firmware now includes some features to essentially block "zone-free" disks. You could try by testing - First: an original DVD from the proper zone, then, an original DVD from the improper zone, then, a copied DVD from both. Please list the outcomes of all the tested DVD's

Ill move on to the other possibility if this is not the answer.

Good luck, Ted

Wrong disc

If this model displays Wrong Disc even when you play all kinds of CDs, you may want to buy a CD/DVD laser cleaner for it.

Does this solve the problem?

"Wrong Disc"

Manually slide the laser (in its bed) along its track toward the center of the player. Try this a few times, restart as needed. I just got this advice from another poster and am happy not to spring for repair costs now, or another cheaply made substitute.
