Question about Electrical Supplies

Markon B21B Generator Internals.

I have an old generator which I used to use a lot - It is a Honda GX340 at the driving end and a Markon B21B generator end.

The whole thing blew up pretty horribly last year and I thought it was the engine - I managed to get a new Carb to replace the very broken one and now the engine works fine again but that was when I discovered that the Markon end is also broken (I have no idea how both broke at the same time).

I have dismantled the B21B and the fan assembly had shattered - Superficially this shouldn't matter but there seemed to be some electronics in the fan and I don't have a clue what they are. I have pictures of the framgents, and I have 4 bare wires sticking out of the inner coil.

I suspect this is something I can mend if I knew how - But I am stumped now, I have reached my limit of being able to bodge without some pointers.

The generator end is here:

http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/lawrie/GeneratorBits#

And there is a manual for a newer and less powerful Markon Generator End here which shows nothing at all at the Coupling Fan end:

http://www.powertechengines.com/NewageData/MarkonPartsServiceInstallation-105-english.pdf

So... Any ideas anyone?

Michael.

I suspect the wires went to a bridge rectifier module...something like this:

Third item down at this site:

This an epoxy packaged one... they also have metal ones as well.

Hello Michael, I realize this post is a little old. I have the exact same markon b21b and am tinkering on it as we speak. Not much online about it, nor schematics. Would you be so kind as to explain the values of the 3 wires coming from the top of the generator head? They are numbered, however, without knowing what the numbers mean, I don't know which is hot, neutral, or ground. I'm needing to "flash field" the unit and this info would be most helpful. Perhaps I can provide the info you're looking for relative to your rectifier/fan concerns. Regards, Kevin alterego_k (at) yah00

What RPMis the max torque

the chart shows figures of 10.7 hp-8.0kw with a torque of 19.5 ft/lbs- 26.4nm at 2500rpms ( max net torque)
the chart shows gx390 is 11.7hp (8.7kw) but the torque is the same as the gx340
you can get these figures from world. honda com or by going google and typing in--torque range of honda gx 340 motor at max rpms
10 hp engines running at 2500 rpms will be good for gensets of 5kw continuous out put as most makes run that size engine

What could be wrong if the generator cranks up but will not produce power?

Are your breakers tripped? Test the power side of the breakers and if there is no voltage there, then the generator may be shot.

Hi,the quick, but not final fix for this issue is to use a oil additive similar the one-s from the cars, but make sure you are using the one required by the fuel type. The engine is worn out, needs overhaul, soon or later.Good luck, regards

My Multiquip GA6HA generator only puts out 1 volt any ideas for troubleshooting?

Sounds like the alternator has failed, possibly a short or open in the windings. Similar to problem I had with my 10 KW unit. I replaced the alternator.

Can we get a maintenance manual for this generator ?

I would go to the manufacturers website and check your model number. I am a plumber and do this frequently for different pumps and other things. Most of the time you can download and print the manual. Just look for literature or manuals.

How to remove generator from engine (model DGUH5S-2). 11 horsepower Honda engine.GX340 .

I have not worked on Dunlite generators, however have worked on many different brands using the GX340. When removing generator parts, one must keep in mind the brushes contacting the armature. Remove brush pack if any and set to side. Next unplug stator wiring making sure to draw diagram of connections. Remove bolts mounting generator/stator housing to frame and carefuflly pull off leaving only armature /rotor on the crank of the engine. Remove the long bolt thru rotor into crank. Now you will need to apply penetrating oil to the shaft of the engine to loosen the rust on the taper. It may take several applications. Place a piece of hardwood against
metal to protect the rotor and firmly rap with hammer on
both sides. You may need to use pry bar against engine
and rotor as you hammer hardwood. Repeat as necessary,
some rotors will be very stuck due to rust. Be very
carefull with hammer and or prybars not to damage
windings. Have patience and let oil work. Good luck.

My honda gx340 generator will not run on high speed correctly it seems to be blowing back throu the air filter not sucking in air? it starts on the first pull every time but will not generate any power on...

blowing back through the air filter would suggest an inlet valve problem you will need to remove the cylinder head a inspect it. if it not damaged then it will probably need groinding in
