Question about Kenmore 56549 / 56542 / 56544 / 56546 Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

The door handle is loose on my Kenmore side by side refrigerator. I want to tighten it but the trim covers the screw tops and the trim piece does not appear to "pop off". How do I get to the screws to tighten them?

Good Day to You,
There are two basic ways to remove the trim that cover the screws depending what style you have. I will give you both ways.

  1. Apply firm pressure with your hand on the face of the trim. Slide top trim up and bottom trim down away from handle. Lift trim pieces of shoulder screws.
  2. Apply firm pressure on the handle to slide it up and off of the shoulder screws.
I hope this has answered your question if you need any more assistance with this please comment back and I will be happy to help further, thank you for using FixYa. Have a great weekend. Jeff

I have a ge side by side refrigerator model gss25qta with a loose handle. there is no trim or cover piece. Just the handles on the face of the door. How do I get to the screws to tighten them?

Hi,

1. off the upper and lower ends with flat plastic or apadded flat head screw driver so as not to scratch your stainless steel. Atwisting wrist action will suffice. 2. Now the screws are exposed, you can re-tighten them. 3. Replace the plastic covers starting with the base whichhas a small plastic the goes into a slot in the main handle. Then glide therest forward and it snaps in effortlessly.

How would you recommend tightening the loose handles on the doors

These generally have a trim covers which can be pried off with a screwdriver or putty knife. Then you can get to the screws to tighten them. Hope this helps!

The door on the freezer is loose

Using a putty knife, I pried the long plastic cover off the handle on the portion that was loose. That exposed the torx screw. When I attempted to tighten it, it turned without tightening, so I removed the screw. I pushed the thin metal trim piece away from the hole and squeezed crazy glue unto the hole. I let that dry. Then I was able to tighten the screw. I replaced the cover.

On my Kenmore Elite #106.56683501 the refrigerator door is loose

Depending on the model, and the color, here's your fix.

Stainless with stainless handles- you'll need a hex key. The tiny hole is on the inside of the handle, close to the center. Turn the key until it's tightened.

Stainless with black handle/white/bisque/black- push the door handle up. Careful not to scratch the finish! once the handle pops, pull it straight off. Take a phillips head screw driver, tighten the top screw A LITTLE BIT and then attach again. Insert screws on the door into the holes on the handle, slide down. (will need to be a little tough with it.)
Good luck!

I nee to tighten up the freezer door handle on a sub zero 650?

There are different handles depending on serial number. The older of the two is at the top of the door. The screws are covered with a magnetic trim piece. You can remove this by putting tape on the chrome and pull up. You can then tighten the nuber two phillips head screws. The newer model is on the door itself. These are held on with small set screws accessed from the bottom of the handle. You may get by just tightening the set screws. If not you need to remove the handle by removing the set screws. You can then tighten the standoff and reatach the handle. For the 632 same procedure except it will be on the side.

Loose door handle

I just FINALLY fixed mine...  Popped little cover pieces off top and bottom of handle with a plastic bread bag tag slid along space created by loose handle (did not scratch finish on door).  That exposed the screws which could be tightened with a phillips screw driver; the cover pieces then snap back on the ends of the handle.

Ge profile refrigerator door handle is loose

I had this problem on this model and just repaired it.... and I am no mechanic. The bottom of the handle was loose. You'll see there is a cap on the top and bottom of the handle. You need to pop the cover off of the end that is loose. For the bottom part of the handle, I used a flat head screwdriver under the most southern portion of the handle, lifted the handle of the screwdriver towards me. The cover popped with minimal effort. Tighten the screw and replace cover. Pretty, pretty, pretty easy!

Door Handles Loose

Pry off the covers carefully and tighten the screws. The covers will come off. You can even place a thin piece of cardboard between the screw drive and the refrigerators surface so you wont scratch it. Hope this helps
