Question about Dell E773C 17" CRT Monitor

1 Answer

No picture on monitor (monitor turns itself off)

I've had this Dell monitor w/ no problems for something like 5 years. Yesterday it was on and I noticed at one point (I'd gone out of the room) that there was no picture--just a black screen. I unplugging the power cord and replugging it in. I tried unplugging the cord to my hard drive and replugging that back in. I tried pressing the on and off button on the front of the monitor. I pressed it off and then in pressing the button on, the light came on green and then after a few seconds went to orange. No picture. When I unplugged the cord to my hard drive, something came on the screen saying that the cable was not connected, but when I reconnected the cable, there still was picture, only a black screen. Help! P.S. I connected another old monitor, so I know the problem is in that Dell E773c monitor.

MONITOR ISSUES

There could be a problem on the monitor itself if it frequently turns itself off, try to unplug the VGA/ DVI cable and check if you can see the self test feature. If not, the monitor needs to be replaced. If you are still covered by the warranty, just call dell and they will replace it for you. Hope this helps

Dell Inspiron 531 (desktop) won?t turn on/boot

You've either got a bad motherboard or a bad processor (I'd lean to the motherboard being bad). I would honestly take this into a computer repair shop and have them check both.

I have a Dell 2405 (abt 4 yrs old) which when I switched it on yesterday gave a bit of a 'bang' and then died. No power light or anything. Is this something that is easy to diagnose? Regards Chris Moore

Hello,

It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of the monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix the problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service.
I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Monitor not working

It may well be dead. Try testing the monitor on another working PC. Also try a working monitor on the problem PC. Then you will know whether it's the monitor or the PC graphics card that's faulty.

Monitor will not turn off

The power switch on an LCD monitor is only a power saver, it does not switch it off completely. There is no reason why you cannot use the mains switch to turn the monitor on and off - assuming that it was on in the first place!

Most LCD monitors have a 3 year warrantly - at least they do in the UK. Why not contact Dell and get them to replace it for you. You should do this before the 3 years are up.

Cheers
