If, by plug in you mean the socket, then you need to check the fuse in the power plug next.
At the very lease there should be some light on the unit that illuminate even if it does not FREEZE.
If the compressor comes on wait to see if there is any drop in temperature. then it is possible the fuse was faulty.
see below links for more information on possible causes
Not sure if its the same for all Kenmore freezer models but this may indicate it is in demo mode. To remove this press the up or down arrow three times as fast as possible (within 2 seconds). This will start the compressor, I hope this helps.
About the only things that can be replaced on a chest style freezer are the thermostat, and the starting device for the compressor. if you know where the control is then thump it fairly hard to see if the unit comes on. If unit comes on then you need to replace the thermostat. (control andthermostat are same thing). now if it has the digital display on the door of the freezer do not thump it. Only the newer freezers have those though. Hope this helps
If all is ideal maybe -10 an occationally -15 and this is F considerable coolder than -20C. ALSO fyi a chest freezer will stay at or below these temps better than an upright and especially a self defrosting model. Because a chest freezer you dont loose all the cold air when you open the door. TYhey are not made in auto matic defrost as far as I know (never have seen one but then I havent been looking for one either. An up right freezer can be manual defrost or automatic. but the cold air falls ouit every time the door is opened.
