Question about Dell 3100cn Laser Printer

Open Question

The black cartridge would not come out by spinning, I finally got it out by pressing a pin on the opposite side of the cartridge. I found the slide door to the auger (under the cartridge opening) was not moving (moved a small amount) enough to dicharge toner cartridge. Do I have to replace toner cartridge holder (in carousel) or what? I'm stuck and not really a tech.

SOURCE: Replace Toner message with new cartridge.

Ok, I got mine working again. Turns out there was about 2 cups of that crappy 3rd party toner all gummed up inside the mixing chamber just behind the metal roller. It was so jammed full of bad toner that the new dell toner couldn't even make it through to the roller. If you are feeling ambitious (and your printer is broken anyway) here is how I got mine working.

  1. Turn off printer.
  2. Pull the toner and drum out of the printer and rotate the carousel by hand until the black toner holder is at the top.
  3. Look on the right side of the carousel where the toner cartridge locks in. There is a white clip. Get a good flashlight and carefully examine how the clip works before you start prying on it. Gently pull back the small locking tab and rotate the clip towards you and remove it.
  4. Look on the other side, opposite where the white clip was. There is a small metal bracket held with a screw. Remove the screw and the bracket.
  5. Now you can carefully lift the *entire black toner housing, roller and gearbox* of off the carousel. You may have to rotate the carousel slightly to maneuver it out.
  6. Set the housing on a clean surface and remove the two screws that hold the scraper blade over the roller.
  7. Dump out ALL the bad toner inside and clean off the roller with alcohol.
  8. Dispose of bad toner and reassemble printer in the reverse order.
When reinstalling the blade you will need to set the gap between the blade and the roller so that a smooth, even layer of toner is spread across the roller as it turns. Too big a gap and your prints will be dark and smudgy. Too small and your prints will be light. I checked my other colors with a feeler gauge, they were all set to 0.018" from the factory. You can eyeball it if you have to but using a feeler gauge works a lot better.

Final step is to install a new Dell toner cartage and allow the printer to calibrate. With any luck your will be fully functioning again.

Here is the manual for this printer.

You should be able to pull down on the front cover and pull out the toner.

SOURCE: 3100CN keeps asking to replace black toner tried 2 new catridges!

After installing the toner cartridge the replace toner message will reappear after the calibration sequence until you press the menu button on the front of the printer. After doing that the message goes away and you should be ready to print again.

SOURCE: cannot remove toner cartridge

There is a manual removal option. Open the front cover. Then the top. Remove the drum. Close the front cover. (leave the top open). Move the toner housing unit so the required toner is accessable from the back. Remove.

Replace drum. Restart printer. The housing unit shoud rotate the empty spot to the front so you can insert the new toner.

Good luck.

Replace frony brakas

Pull the single pin from the top of each caliper
remove metal springs (if they are still there)
slide out old brake pads
press one side of pistons (3 per side?) back into the caliper with screw driver(s)/pry bar(s). This step may be tricky as you may have to manage to get all 3 pistons back at once (if they are separate pistons)
insert brake pad(s) into that side
press opposite pistons back into the caliper
insert brake pad(s)
replace metal spring and slide pin back through replacing cotter pin
repeat for the other side.

I found this on the HP Web Site. You can download the user guide and the Manual. Show step by step instruction to change the cartridge. If you find this helpful pls rate me.

To replace the print cartridges
1. Make sure the product is on and you have letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the input tray.
2. Open the print cartridge door.
The print carriage should move to the far right side of the product. If the print carriage does not move to the right side, turn the product off, and then on.
3. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a print cartridge to release it.
If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left.
If you are replacing the black print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right.
1 Print cartridge slot for the tri-color print cartridge
2 Print cartridge slot for the black print cartridge
4. Pull the print cartridge towards you out of its slot.
6. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging, being careful to touch only the black plastic. Gently remove the plastic tape using the pink pull tab.
1 Copper-colored contacts
2 Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing)
3 Ink nozzles under tape
CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Touching
these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
7. Slide the new print cartridge at a slight upward angle into the empty slot. Then gently push on the upper part of the print cartridge forward until it snaps into place.
If you are installing the tri-color print cartridge, slide it into the left slot.
If you are installing the black print cartridge, slide it into the right slot.

Unable to remove black cartridge, it is really stuck. Help

I just changed my black toner this past week, and finally figured out why the cartridges get stuck like this.

First, you must eject the toner cartridge on the front-panel menu:
Menu->Replace Toner->Eject Toner->Black(K)

It will say "Rotating to Black Toner(K)" and then say "Black Toner(K) Ready to Eject"

Now, open the front panel and you'll see the black toner cartridge in front. You can also open the top panel if you want more light on your work area.

Lift the lock handle on the old toner cartridge to the "unlock" position, and here's the part that the Dell instructions don't have:

There are two channels for the toner cartridges -- one on each side. Run your finger down the channel on the right, and you'll feel a small, spring-loaded catch. This catch often gets sticky and won't release the cartridge without some help. Don't force it, but gently move it towards the back of the printer and it should release.

Now the old cartrdige should slide right out, and you can finish per the instructions that came with the new cartridge.

Caution! Do not touch the gold-colored contacts or ink nozzles.
Once you have removed the plastic tape, install the print cartridge
immediately to prevent the ink from drying in the nozzles.

4 Hold the black or photo print cartridge with the HP label on top. Slide the print cartridge at a slight angle up into the right side of the print carriage.
Press firmly until the print cartridge snaps into place.
Caution! Do not attempt to push the cartridge straight into the slot.
It must slide in at a upward slight angle.

10.00 error is for the black cartridge. Check the cartridge locker for the black toner cartridge on the right side, is it different from the other? does it moves correctly? check properly. If the locker seems correct, try clean the contacts on toner and opposite HV pins in printer

Cartridge cradle is stuck

I have had this problem with my 7550 for a while now and I finally found this on the HP website and it seems to have fixed my problem, I also replaced all of the cartridges:

Issue While printing from an HP Photosmart printer, the printer screen displays Print cartridge cradle is stuck / clear jam and then press OK . The printer may also make grinding sounds. This can occur after a paper jam when another printer part blocks the cradle. Solution Follow these instructions to adjust the clutch on the printer.
  1. Disconnect the USB cable.
  2. Press the printer power button to turn off the printer.
  3. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  4. Open the top cover of the printer.
  5. Remove the print cartridges from the printer.
  6. Slide the cradle to the right side of the printer.
  7. Locate the clutch on the left side of the printer.
NOTE: The clutch is a flat, white, plastic component that rests just above the white roller gear wheel. In the HP Photosmart P1000 and P1100 printers, the clutch is black metal. Figure 1: Printer clutch c00020494.jpg
  8. Remove the rear access door from the back of the printer.
  9. Press the clutch firmly towards the back of the printer, while rolling the wheels in the back of the printer upward two full rotations.
  10. Release the clutch and roll the wheels up two more rotations.
  11. Reinstall the rear access door.
  12. Reinstall the print cartridges and secure the latches in place.
  13. Close the top cover and reconnect the power cord.
  14. Turn on the printer.
  15. Print a test page.
