Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

Make my existing wireless connection secure

I have a Dell laptop that I use with a Linksys router. I also have a desk top that is plugged into the Linksys router. We have had this set up for a long time and it has never been secure. Now we live in a big city and I think I need to make it a secure network instead of open access.

I cannot find the book or any of the information that came with the router when we bought it three years ago.

can you help me?

You need to configure the Linksys with the wireless settings, ie. the SSID and encryption. then you need to configure the wireless card in laptop with these router's wireless settings so it can connect with the wireless router.
Open a browser on your computer and type in the Linksys configuration URL.
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
then go to the wireless section and configure the SSID and encryption. I suggest you use WPA or WPA2 these are much stronger encryption than the older WEP encrtption.

I have lynskys router connected my dell desktop computer. My router is suppose to pick up signals all over my condo for the laptop that i have. But it knocks out the internet on my desk top.

I have a question...

Does the laptop recieve internet connection?

If so, go to your router and plug in another ethernet cord into the first, second, third slot and then plug the other end into your desktop's ethernet slot.

First of all u should ensure that DHCP server is configured for your required number of computers. this problem seems that you have less clients configured in your DHCP server, existing in router configuration.

Wireless - G router

If the Linksys is not yet configured use the desktop to put the CD in and follow instructions to add the Linksys Router to your existing network setup.

Once inside there are a few more steps to getting a desktop PC to see & network with a laptop PC within a router/wireless environment. Once the Linksys is setup you may want to repost something to get the computers talking to each other.

Take care...

Do you mean password?
Your post is difficult to understand because of the lack of punctuations and capital letters.
Remember, all we know is what you post, so try to be more legible.
Try resetting your router to defaults.
