An Emac! one of my favorite CRT Macs :D

They sometimes had a problem of the vibrations of the speakers killing the CRT Tube. But it sounds like you are having worse problems.

the first suspect would be bad ram. Try removing one stick, then the other and running it with only one stick. If you only have one stick, then get ahold of a new stick and try that. There is a little rectangular cover on the bottom of the computer that your ram hides under.

If that doesnt fix it, return any purchase of sticks or ram and lament the death of your mac. Not that it is not fixable, its just cheaper to get a new one, and hey, unless your hard drive is fried, you can even get all your data off! How cool is that?

DISCLAIMER: You are dealing with a CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) Monitor. It can and will shock you if you touch the wrong bit. Possibly even lethally. EVEN if it is unplugged. If you dont feel comfortable opening the case, pay a professional.

Here is a link showing how to take apart your mac. http://www.wilko.com/emac/
This also has a good picture of the memory cover.

Once you have the hard drive out you can get and IDE to USB cable or hard drive enclosure, and hook your old drive up to your new mac, and use the migration utility (in the utilities folder) and pull your whole account (applications and all) to the new mac.

You can get a 1.4GHz Emac for around $200 these days.

High pitched noise/beep on emachine e440 laptop

In Windows 7 ,Try the Power Options in Control Panel. Set to High Performance, select Change Plan settings, set Sleep to never, select Advanced Power settings, scroll through the Advanced Power settings, set Sleep and Hibernate to Never and Power Buttons and Lid to Shut down. Always shut down and unplug the Laptop when not in use to prevent damage due to a power surge and a possible Fire hazard IF the battery malfunctions. Not to mention unnecessary wear on the components.

Hi: My Magnavox flat screen turns on and off. It also makes a high pitch noise and then there is no sound and it also shuts off. Is it worth fixing?

Hello, what's the model or size of screen for the magnavox, the high pitch noise could be an audio power amp starting to get intermittent, and the power on/off could be due to the over current sensor circuit detecting the audio problem. Depending on the model number you would have a seperate power, audio and signal board in the TV. If he TV is 27" or smaller all these circuits are part of a mother board.

My Emac will not start up. It makes a high pitch noise a few times and then nothing happens. The screen will not turn on at all, it just remains black.

Put your system disk and power up holding down the c key on your keyboard. Once booted up go to the file menu and go to disk utility once open see if your hard drive is showing up. If it does run verify disk to to check whether your hard drive needs repaired if it does run the repair disk on it. That should get it up and running. However if your hard drive does not show up it is possible that the hard drive has failed. You would then need to replace the hard drive. Hope this helps.

High pitched noise red light blinking

A high pitch noise comes normally from blown capacitors from the motherboard or the power supply. But mostly high pitch noise comes from power supplies.

You could have to open up the power supply to see them.

Verify if it is the case and replace the faulty part.

All three lights turn on like normal and then nothing

Depending on the pitch. humming noises are either a motor ie: fan motor or if it is very low a defective capacitor . Since you have the yellow band and the high pitched beep my fist thought is somthing defective in the power supply. Take it to an authorized servicer.

My Moniter won't work!

That high pitched sound in one way is a very good thing. It pretty much points out the source of the problem itself. That is more than likely either a blown capacitor or transformer on the power source inside the monitor. I would rule out the power inverter for the LCD backlight because the power light will not turn on either. I have found that Samsung is very good with their repairs, and if it is a somewhat recent model they should be able to get it drop ship repaired with little expense. That can be an inconvenience, and if you do decide to replace the monitor altogether, please be eco-conscious and have the old screen either donated to a goodwill organization where scavengers like me will buy it for raw parts, or to an electronics recycling center. E-Waste is becoming a very large problem and LCDs and flat screens are a hefty piece of it.

TV won't stay turned on, no picture, started making high pitched noise

That high pitched noise you're hearing is the power supply telling you that it has too much of a load on it and lowered its operating frequency which in effect cuts its output way down! Normally you don't hear any thing since the power supply operates at a frequency that's beyond human hearing. In an RCA this indicates more than likely that your horizontal output transistor is shorted and this short was caused by the flyback transformer shorting. This is a common happening with RCA's You'd need to take to a tv shop and have it checked out. Stargazer
