Question about PC Desktops

5 Answers

I have a denon 3808 and have it wirelessly connected to the internet via an ethernet converter that detects my wireless router signal.  I can download firmware updates and play internet radio.  However, I cannot figure out how to play music from my computer through the denon.  I do not have a shared network or anything and am definitely not an expert on networking so it may be something simple.  I'd like to be able to wirelessly access my computer music files on the denon and pick what I want to play.  Thanks.

There is a way to do what you are asking for using the AVR-3808 internet radio facility.
Lets say you have your slimserver on a pc with ip 192.168.o.5
Then you need to go to this site: www.radiodenon.com and add this as a station like this; http://192.168.0.5:9000/stream.mp3
after that you can select that in your denon under internet radio and added stations.
Slimserver thinks that it is streaming to a winamp software player and Denon think it listens to a internet radiostation.
The down side is that it only works with mp3.
Maybe someone else has done this in a better way, then please let us know. hope this helps, good luck, feel free to post further questions

Hi,

Initially, pls try sharing the folder where your music files are in your PC. This is done by right clicking on the folder, click on "Sharing and Security...", on the next window, check "Share this folder on the network, Apply and OK.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

    Going back to your post:
    1. "can download firmware updates and play internet radio" - confirms that indeed you are already connected to your wireless network;
    2. "how to play music from my computer" - the Denon must access your PC, for the PC to be accesses, it must be on the same network and the files/folders (music) must be shared;
    3. "do not have a shared network" - following my initial post would give you a shared resource in your network.

This is better explained in page 55 of the Denon's manual.

    Cheers.

I don't think Denon has released its full lineup of 2008 receivers yet. (Note that for Denon the last digit denotes the model year and for Yamaha, it's the second digit.)

Then make a wireless lan in your house.

create a wireless lan inside your house

and then from your computer synchronize the hardwares of the denon.

there you will need to add for hardware and give necessary permissions for the denon hardware to connect to your PC.

also configure your firewall and AV programs so that they dont block the acess of that hardware of your denon to your PC.

There are a variety of ways to connect to the Internet or a home/business network using your Hewlett-Packard (HP) desktop computer---via a modem, Ethernet cable and even wirelessly.
A wireless connection works by sending a signal from your modem or router to your HP desktop's built-in wireless radio.
The radio receives and processes the signal so you can access the Internet or a home or business network.
In order for the signal to be received by your HP desktop, you must enable the wireless radio within the computer's configuration.

Click "Start," "Control Panel."
Double-click on the "HP Wireless Assistant" icon.
The HP Wireless Assistant dialog box will open.
Click the "Turn On" button next to the words "Wireless LAN."
Click "Close" to activate the wireless radio.

I have a Dell dimension 350 pc with just a modem connection for a phone line. I just got cable installed which has the ethernet hookup. i would like to still use my 350 with win. 98 if i can. how can i...

Does your cable modem have wireless internet? If so, you can buy a Netgear wireless usb port adapter for about $20 and use that to connect wirelessly to the internet. Your pc has usb port connections - right? (Usb port looks like a rectangle)

If you don't want to use a wireless connection you can purchase a cable modem with a usb connection for about $65. You run the ethernet cable to the modem and then a usb cable from the modem to your pc.

If you have a serial cable connection on your pc (looks like a round circle with tiny metal pins in it) you can buy a gender changer and convert that to usb (in case you dont have a usb connection or need another one). You can buy one for about $11.

You can buy an I/O Gear bluetooth usb adapter for $13 and pick up the internet via bluetooth by putting it in your usb port but I'm unsure how well it would work with Win 98.

If you have another pc that has an ethernet connection you could use good old fashioned bi directional printer cable and network both computers together. You may need to upgrade to win xp for networking capabilities.

How Do I connect to internet with my desktop without Ethernet cable

To connect wireless to a network ..you need a wireless router or access to a near by one ..and you need to install a wireless card on computer if it has non ..This can be a pci card and you will install it on a pci slot inside and install its driver and after that connect to the network available ..or use a wireless card on usb ..
If you do not have a network free near by ..you can connect using the wireless card to another computer connected to the internet ..or install a wireless router on your Ethernet cable ..and a card in computer or a usb one ..
In my opinion the wireless card and router is the best way cause connecting trough another computer can be tricky and slow..
another way ..if you do not have any other means is to use a wireless modem on usb from a mobile network ISP (internet service provider )
This can be the same provider as your mobile phone one ..

My laptop works using my Belkin router, but my desktop will not connect to the internet

hello

your notebook has WiFi, which is radio frequency internet, it transmits and receives radio signals (frequencies) . Your desktop, most likely, does not support WiFi on its own , so you need to use RG45 cable , ethernet cable to be connected from your desktop to the router.
lan-cable-rg45-cat5e-cat6-utp-ftp-acr2101-.jpg

So in other words thsi is what happens with your notebook and the router.
  1. your notebook has built in wireless adapter which translates data into a radio signal and transmits it using an antenna.
  2. A wireless router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet using a physical, wired Ethernet connection, to your modem (supplied by your Internet Service Provider)
The process also works in reverse, with the router receiving information from the Internet, translating it into a radio signal and sending it to the computer's wireless adapter.

The radios used for WiFi communication are very similar to the radios used for walkie-talkies, cell phones and other devices.

you need to connect your desktop to the router via RG45 ethernet cable.

Wireless connection set up

Are you trying to hook up the laptop wirelessly to the pc? because then the pc would need to have a wireless card as well....sounds like I need more info, but if you are trying to do what I think you are, you should just get a wireless router instead, hook the pc tower directly to it via ethernet cable, and then setup the laptop to connect to the router. The router would hook to your dsl or cable router....what service do you have?

Can't get internet connection to my lap top.ps i have a desk top.

Is your laptop wireless adapter correctly configured? It may be set to only recieve certain types of signals (802.11b, when you may beed 802.11g etc), so check if the configuration of the laptop matches the configuration of the router.

To test if the laptop can get internet at all, try to get to a wired internet line (your wireless router may have some Ethernet ports on the back; laptops usually have Ethernet connectivity), just incase your laptop is set to block all internet signals coming in.

Hope this helps!

I recently purchased a Hawking HSB2 Signal Booster. Two years ago, my son installed a Toshiba Cable modem(PCX2200)and a Belkin Wireless Router(model#F5D7230-4)for Camcast High Speed Internet. The Router...

Booster will only work along with access points in your case the belkin wireless router - you have to connect the device to the router not to the windows xp pc

if you know how to configure and the device are compatiable to each other and allows bridging or can configure as your access point client then you need not wanna to get it connected via wire or T568b standard ethernet cable otherwise you have to connect with this cable will enchance the wireless activity

Wireless signals can go down its strength by any magnetic activity, oscillations such as microwave, powerful steel/metal frames and check your anteena position keep in different direction and check your pc wifi signal strength.

Interlink between your router and booster with utp cables gives you steady flow of data and full band strength.

Aviod using two company devices change the router to Hawking
Thanks Hothawk
