Question about Toshiba 65HDX82 65" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Toshiba 65hdx82 convergence issues

Got the tv for free thinking that because i had repaired a few sony tvs with the help of a kit from tvrepairkits.com. this is not the case however!
i started off by replacing the stk chips, the tv was almost perfect except in autofocus the red horizontal focus had a bow and would not converge.
i found a blown capacitor right by the stk chips and replaced it with an exact replacement facing the correct way. assembled the tv to check if that did the trick and now none of the colours will converge.
I"ve double-checked my solder joints and they are good.
i am out of ideas.

any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

please and thanks.

    checked for both, no luck.
is there a reason the convergence would have gotten worse after changing a fuse resistor? I didn't wing it on the fuse, i took it to the electronics shop to get the replacement so there would be no guessing. it wasn't burned up really, just a little split in the side with some black stuff hanging out.

Hi,
Double vision/ picture problem occurs due to failure of convergence output ICs in rear projection tv and it is common problem of projection tvs.
Please replace convergence output ICs in tv to solve the issue, there is convergence repair kit available for $70 on This Site that has required parts/ ICs, instructions about how to replace ICs etc for a handy person.
Hope these info will help.
Thanks.

Toshiba 65hdx82 has a squiggly distorted side to side picture from all inputs. It gets slightly better after it is warmed up but still very bad. When you go into a menu screen that seems to be OK.

Toshiba rear screen projection tv theaterview colors wavey? It no longer is visible, the colors are separated

1.) It sounds like you have a convergence problem; in the customer menu with the original Toshiba remote select convergence--if blue or red will NOT move in some direction you have a bad convergence IC.

2.) This set uses 2 STK-392-110 convergence chips; they and any open resistors around them need to be replaced and the set adjusted.

3.) If you are able to do this repair yourself you can save a lot of money--Most TV shops will charge 300-400 for this type of repair on this set.

4.) If you cannot do the repair yourself look in your area--now is the slow time of year for TV repair shops---if they say it "has to go to shop" keep looking----almost any good tech can do this repair in your home in about an hour--I have done hundreds of them here and charge 200-250 total depending on brand and model.

5.) I am here to help people and if you have questions or need advice let me know--the two chips this set uses you can buy on Ebay for about 12 dollars plus shipping.

I do this here for free, so if this information has helped you give me a vote here---let me know by replying here if you need more help.

Toshiba 65hdx82 convergence problem, pincushion

Your TV most likely a failure in the convergence circuits. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

0667c5f.pngSOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

There are many circuit failures that can cause the TV to do this. By far the most common issue is a failure of the convergence output ICs. Expect to spend $350-450 to fix this.

Distorted Picture

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution
