Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

Samsung DLP HLN617W, black wavy lines in the picture, but only when watching Cable TV. DVD movies are great. Started a month ago (owned set for 4 years), would show up at power up and go away after 20min or so. Now its all the time. Have 4 other TV's (not DLP) and none have this problem. So far in the TV's life, its had a color wheel replaced 2X and the light replaced 2X. Last repair was 7 mos ago.

If video is good on DVI input, the problem is only the digital board. Just watch it on DVI or use a high end stereo reveiver to switch digital inputs to DVI. The DMD board is not bad if any input is good

also if you have some electronic appliances like air-conditioners and something like that can also cause such lines.....

just disconnect all the cables n try to see whether still the problem exists/...

Display problem with my Samsung HLP5085W DLP TV

What you are describing sounds like a tuner issue. Samsung had a run of bad tuners, and was recalled. If your watching a chennel and the image tears, this is the sign of the bad tuner. It is possible that the wobulation circuit is unstable. First units we bothered by subwoofers thumping the TV. Not much help other than that, good luck

Display problems with my Samsung model HLP5085W DLP Television

This is due to a failing capacitor on the DMD board. A color wheel will give the same symptom if the spin sensor is dirty. It is most likely the DMD and It is easier to replace the board than to find the cap. Good luck

Picture is of poor quality (wavy)

This may indicate a problem with the RF tuner. When you are using the DVD player is the output of the DVD using the F (RF Coax) Conncetor or is the DVD connect to the TV using the Video/Audio cables (either Composite (Red, White, Yellow) or Component (Red, Green, Blue)). I am do however believe this to be a RF tuner problem. Make sure that the TV is set to channel 3 and the cable box is connected to the TV (set to channel 3). What you could also do is get digital cable and use the video output jack as the input to the TV on one of your aux positions.

I would first make sure the tunner is on channel 3 when using the regular cable box, or if you are using the TV's cable ready features make sure the tunner is working correctly, this might have to be done by a qualifide TV repair person.

I hope this helps
Thank you,

Our Color TV is now Black & White

It could be the color wheel and in fact probably is. I've seen them shatter which would explain the noise. They are glass and spinn at 9000 rpm. An involved repair though definatley a job for a pro. It could be worse, probably a few hundred will do it. Was the TV begining to be a little loud before the failure? Could be a sign, i've seen many noisy color wheels.
