You will have to diagnose it by trial and error. You will need to plug in a different processor, and try it, if no joy, try different ram, if no joy, try different video card, if no joy, try different power supply. Or try each of those listed in anoother system one by one. Problems like yours can be time consuming to diagnose. You will have to determine which piece of the puzzle is causing the problem. You may have shocked the motherboard, ram or processor and they could be dead.
You also said that the processor was not seated correctly, that could have burned up the processor, also look to make sure that you havent bent one of the pins over on the processor while re seating it. It is easy to do if you are not paying attention.

P5GD2 one post beep

Check the processor's heat sink fan. Make sure it's spinning. Blow out any dust or vacuum (w/ no power to the tower.) Reseat the memory. Try with one memory stick if you have two, resassuring to put in slot 1. Sometimes two different types of memory act weird together. Make sure memory is compatible. (ex. PC2100...)

Sounds like something like your ram or processor are no good yet.
If it doesn't give any kind of beep, start over, with just ram and processor, and keyboard.
and oh, yea, monitor.

Basically, display card, RAM and processor are the ones affecting the display. IF trying different memory and video card doesnot help. Try changing the different processor. Thanx with regards Sajan

K7VM3

Hi,

An ASRock K7VM3.motherboard is a socket A (462) board specifically for the AMD processors. To my experience, these boards (due to age and period of usage) are prone to:
  • bulging/leaky capacitors of the high current regulators near the CPU;
  • the heatsink tends to be dislodged/misaligned causing overheated processor;
  • loose memory slots causing defective memories.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

One long beep.

  1. Leave the memory slot closest to the processor empty and try booting again. Award bios 1 long beep is memory error as the first 64K of the ram stick closest to th processor is accessed first. since you have tried different ram in different locations, let's rule out the board.
  2. If that doesn't solve anything try a different power supply. Sometimes (Phoenix) gives a long beep when system board or power supply are bad.
  3. Now if nothing else has worked it is probably tour mother board.

PC won't boot

Is the case speaker connected to the motherboard?
If it is, do you get any beep sequence? If there is no display, the power speaker output an audible beeps sequence. For example, 3 short beeps mean a problem with memory.
