Power cord doesn't work and crackles

When I plug my power cord (the one that came with the laptop) into my Acer Aspire 5520-5912 it doesn't register as charging and a crackling sound emits from the part that I plug directly into the laptop.

STOP using it immediately, throw it away and replace it. You can buy a replacement from the manufactures website or go to BestBuy and buy a universal one. Be prepared to spend about $90, unless you can buy one on ebay. just look at the big black box on the power cord and WRITE DOWN THE VOLTAGE AND AMPS listed there. make sure the new one matches exactly.

Sounds like your power cord/charger got fried. Either that or the motherboard. Bring it to a pc shop and have them test the power cord/charger.

Replaced power cord. still no power

Dear Friend,

Try to removed the battery from your laptop then, plug the charger. I that doesn't work, removed the power and battery, press the power down for about 30 seconds, put everything back or simply pug the power without the battery. If still no power, removed the memory from the memory bay located on the back of your laptop. I hope that works for you!.

Good Luck!

I cannot get my laptop to start. I have bought a new power cord, and it will not charge or start. I have an acer aspire 7736z. What could the problem be?

Try removing the battery, it may be defective. Remove the battery and see if the unit powers up when plugged in.
Check to see if the charge light at least comes on when it's plugged in....if it doesn't, then the socket the power supply plugs into may need to be re-soldered.

Power plug issues...

I wouldn't attempt to troubleshoot this further. It sounds like you have damaged the PSU and further tampering could cause a fire in your laptop or fry your components.

Recommend that you take it in for service.

I have an acer aspire 3690, and when I plug the power cord in to the laptop, the battery does not charge any more. What is wrong with it?

It one of two things wrong here,

1) have your replace the battery yet?

2) Does your AC cord work properly?

Check that and let me know.

Acer laptop 5570z plugges in but not charging

Check the adapter with a multi-meter, the voltage on the plug that connects into the laptop should have a voltage slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the lable on the adapter. If you get nothing then the adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. That is why the battery is not charging.
