Question about Singer 7442 Mechanical Sewing Machine
Make sure the needle is fresh, remove the needle plate and take out the bobbin case. Turn the hand wheel slowly watching to see if the point of the hook, rotating circular metal piece that the bobbin case sits on is the hook, comes by the needle before or after the eye of the needle has raised above point of the hook. If the needle eye is above the point of the hook when point passes needle machine is out of time and should be taken to trained tech. FYI the way to fix this problem is not to lower the needle, generally it is a repositioning of the hook rotation best left to trained tech

HI, I HAD THIS PROBLEM ONCE AND HAD THE WRONG NEEDLE, ALSO IS THE NEEDLE EVEN SLIGHTLY BENT? DOES THE MACHINE HAVE THE CORRECT BOBBIN, MAYBE THE OTHER PERSON BOUGHT NEW BOBBINS AND THEY WERE THE WRONG ONES...I HAVE DONE THAT ALSO. I USUALLY USE COMMERCIAL MACHINES, BUT I HAVE FOUND THAT THE NEEDLE HAS TO BE REALLY STRAIGHT, AND NO DINGS IN THE PLATE. AS YOU KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE, IT DOES NOT TAKE MUCH FOR A MACHINE NOT TO WORK. I WOULD TRY NEW BOBBINS AND A NEW NEEDLE FIRST AND THEN LOOK AT THE TIMING. IT MAYBE JUST A SIMPLE THREADING PROBLEM ALSO. I SEW ALOT AND OVER THE YEARS HAVE THE MOST OBVIOUS PROBLEMS JUST PASS BY ME. HOPE THAT YOU CAN FIND OUT WHAT IS GOING ON AND ALSO, IS THE BOBBIN IN BACKWARDS, I HAVE DONE THAT TOO...
