Question about Computers & Internet

Windows media player 9.00 won't allow me to adjust video settings (contrast, brightness) in enhancements in wmp, the options are there, but when I drag slider (eg): to adjust brightness when movie is playing, it snaps back to default settings. I can adjust all these settings in display properties, however I want to adjust for say a movie playing in wmp that is too dark.

I already have the klite codec pac installed and set so that every format (flv, mov, mp4 etc) plays w wmp 9.00 w no problem.
I would rather not install gom player at this pt or vmc player either.
I can try the full klite (mega? pack) which includes a media player along w it.?
    What are my other options?

Hi,

These settings are unavailable for some type of formats. Microsoft has not provided any fix for this. But there is an easy solution. If you like to manually adjust settings then try GOM player. Unlike media player, Gom player has full set of manual controls and allows you to access them by the keyboard.

Click here to visit Gom website. Download and install the player.

Click here to visit klite website. Install the basic codec pack so that you will be able to play multiple formats without problems.

I personally use this player because it is so user friendly that you will forget any other player!

The keyboard shortcuts when using Gom are:

Brightness:

Increase: R
Decrease:E

Contrast:

Increase: Y
Decrease: T

plus there are many more shortcuts, for a complete list right click on the playing video and check out various controls.

You cannot adjust them possibly because the option in Windows Media
Player that enables video mixing rendering (VMR) is turned off. To turn
on VMR in the Player, do the following:

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then
    click the Performance tab.

    Click the Advanced button.

In the Video Acceleration area, click the Use
    video mixing renderer
    check box.

However, if your video card does not support VMR, you may not be
able to turn on the Use video mixing renderer option. If your
video card supports VMR, but you either cannot turn on this option or
adjust the video settings controls (hue, saturation, brightness,
contrast), check for video-card driver updates from the maker of your
    video card.

And you do not need to install the full pack. The extra media player is redundant. Update the video card driver and see if they have added support for this feature (VMR that is).

I assure you that the adjustments work for ANY file. I have checked just about every format and Gom plays it all. Thank you.

b> Windows Media Player is a dynamic media player that comes included with Windows operating system.

According to the Microsoft website, Windows Media Player 12 plays nearly every video format, including 3GP, AAC, AVCHD, MPEG-4, WMV, WMA, and most AVI, DivX, MOV, and Xvid. So, before you begin, you may want to be sure you have the most up-to-date version.

Open the file in Windows Media Player. If it is not the default player on videos, simply right-click on the file, select "Open With" and choose Windows Media Player. Pause the video on a clear frame. Windows Media Player will begin playing the video automatically, so you just need to pause it on a frame that you think you will be able to use as a template for the rest of the movie. Access the Now Playing menu (this is in the upper left-hand corner). Click on it to pull down more options. Select "Video Settings" from the Enhancements submenu. This will open up a small panel at the bottom of the window with various image adjustment meters. Slide the "Brightness" control a little to the left to brighten the image. The image will stay the same until you press "Play," at which point you can view the effects of the new settings. Repeat Step 5 until you find the right brightness. Close the Video Settings menu by pressing the red "X" in the upper right-hand corner of the menu screen.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/windows-media-player-12 b> Brightening the video may give the image a bit of a "washed out" look. Remedy this by tinkering with some of the other settings in the menu. Increasing the Saturation often helps with this problem.

Unable to reduce brightness windows7 ultimate hp1670

laptop ot desktop monitor ?

Adjust your monitor's brightness and contrast

You can adjust the brightness and contrast of your monitor to improve the readability of text and to make digital pictures appear more like they'll look when printed.

To improve the results when adjusting the brightness and contrast settings for your display, use Display Color Calibration. (Display Color Calibration helps you adjust these color settings and others.)

The way you adjust brightness and contrast varies and depends on your specific display.

Brightness and contrast buttons on the front of the monitor.

Some monitors have brightness and contrast controls on the front and use the standard symbols shown in the following image.

Brightness and contrast symbols

On-screen menu. You can change the brightness and contrast settings for some displays by using an on-screen menu, and then setting the brightness and contrast in the resulting menu. Many times, you can view the on-screen menu by pressing a button-possibly labeled Menu-on the front of the monitor.

Laptop display. Laptop displays don't have brightness or contrast buttons on the front.

For a majority of laptops, there isn't a control for setting the contrast.

However, you can set the brightness of many laptops by pressing and holding the Fn key, and then pressing a function key to decrease brightness ( ) or increase brightness ( ).

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Calibrate-your-display#

When using Display Color Calibration on a laptop, set the display to the maximum brightness setting.

Adjusting brightness automatically using adaptive brightness

Adaptive brightness is a feature in Windows that uses a light sensor to automatically adjust the display brightness to match the lighting conditions in your computer's surroundings.

To use adaptive brightness, you must have light sensors installed and enabled on your computer.

To determine if your laptop or computer monitor supports adaptive brightness, look for the Enable adaptive brightness setting in Power Options (mentioned in the following procedure) or check the information that came with your computer.

To turn adaptive brightness on or off

Open Power Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then clicking Power Options.

Under any plan, click Change plan settings.

Click Change advanced power settings.

In the list, expand Display, and then expand Enable adaptive brightness.

To turn adaptive brightness on or off when your computer is running on battery power, click On battery, and then, in the list, click On or Off.

To turn adaptive brightness on or off when your computer is plugged into an outlet, click Plugged in, and then, in the list, click On or Off.

Click Apply. Click OK.

hope this helps

Edge Enhancement Option Disabled...

edge enhancement option i think would be enabled if you are in dynamic or movie mode. What it does is to enhance the contrast of the edges of 2 different colors.

I have the LA32S8, similar specs but only 7000:1 CONTRAST ratio. when playing dvd, i set it to movie mode. Settings vary on different tv and player. you can adjust first the backlight, then brightness then contrast, color and sharpness. the brightness you adjust by choosing the level that shows enough details on dark scenes. adjust if its too dark not to see the details of the scene. contrast, you can set by distiguishing vivid colors of the picture, dont put too much contrast as your picture would look flat. it should have a 3d look, same also with sharpness, you can experiment on the face of a person to show details on the edges.
color you set just enough to make it accurate on color reproduction.

My settings for movie are
contrast 92
brightness 49
sharpness 23
color 57
tint g48 r52
backlight 7
tone warm1
digital NR off
black adjust high
dynamic ocntrast high
gamma +2
edge enhancement on
color space auto

Picture adjustment questions

*The brightness control setting determines how bright your picture will be. *The contrast control sets the gain of the video circuit. This determines the difference between dark and light scenes. Low contrast settings make the picture "hazy". High contrast settings make the picture more distinction between dark and light scenes. *The sharpness control determine the frequency response of the video circiut. High sharpness settings give better resolution but also shows more noise in your picture. Lower sharpness settings smoothe out the picture removing noise but also fine detail. It needs to be set for the best all around picture. *Picture Enhancement is pre-set adjustments which give you different picture qualities. You just select the one you like. Stargazer
