Its called the shutter.I had the same problem, It might be that a gear is stuck. Mine worked when I did this, might save you a lot too. Hit it with your hand, not to damage the camera but goal is to move the stucked gear in position again.

Lens will not extend when turned on message on screen lens error

Hi,

This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed due sand, dust or may be due to external shock caused by dropping the device.
  • Try compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun around lens barrel. It should remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on this will solve the problem.
  • You can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.
  • You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.

If motor is running but lens won't retract sometimes lens would slip off with the gear or break off a tooth in the gear when it gets dropped. Try to gently move the lens barrel around with the finger and see if it is moving, but if tooth or gear is broken lens will move once or twice then it will stuck again.

Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.

Thanks and have a nice day

Its seems lens got stuck in the barrel due to external shock caused, Try out following steps-

Try to gently move the lens barrel around with the finger and see if it is moving, but if tooth or gear is broken lens will move once's or twice then it will stuck again.

Tried to take pictures of lightening last night and couldn't. My lens kept going in and out and wouldn't focus so wouldn't allow me to shoot. Then I kept getting a BUSY across the screen. ...

For this kind of pictures, Don't try to focus on a lightning, it is to quick and mabe the overall brightness is not enough for your camera to focus.
So you can try to focus on something at infinity, if you manage then, put your focus on manual before re focusing, this way you will be able to take as many pictures as you want.

You can also try to focus manually directly.

And for you information the best way to take a lightning picture is to put your camera in bulb mode, use a remote control, open the shutter and close it as soon as you'v seen a lightning.

Hope this helps.
and good shooting !

When i turn on my camera to take a pic it is blurry but if i zoom the lens all the way close to the object it takes a good pic.

Your auto-focus is not working. Inside the camera is a motor that adjusts the lens to focus on an object automatically. It is currently stuck to "close" or near focus. However, it doesn't go far focus. Check the focus functions of you camera - try to use manual focus.

Lens won't open

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).
To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Camera won't operate

Hi!
Yes, it'a a lens problem - could be a stuck focus, sand or dirt inside the lens. You have to be quite experienced to repair Panasonic cameras yourself. It isn't hard to take apart Panasonic cameras, but the lens isn't so easy - especially soldering the shutter and stabilizer cables - experience in soldering and a good soldering station etc is needed. You should give it to a local repair shop or Panasonic service center. It's a hardware problem not software.

Sorry for the bad news!

When I press the on/off button to open my camera a message appears stating 'Lens error' and the lens automatically opens and closes a couple of times before closing so I cannot take any photographs. How...

Hi!
Most likely the focus is stuck. Could be sand or some dirt inside focus gears. They're very small for these lens which are used in many Nikon, Olympus, Casio and other cameras so even one small piece of sand can block the focus system. The only way to fix it to take the camera and lens apart and clean it.

Sorry for the bad news. I repair cameras every day and you can trust me - I know what I'm talking about.

Same exact thing......My mom thinks it needs a new battery.

Hi!
It sounds like your camera lens focus is stuck - could be sand or something in the focus gears - that's the weak spot of these lens. If you can't open the lens and check your lens focus gears yourself, you should contact your local Olympus service center or other camera service center. You can contact me too at toms.safranovs@gmail.com and I can give you a good price.

Hope this helps!

Lens stuck open

In a nutshell, this error happens when the lens gets stuck while trying to extend and comes slightly out of alignment. Particularly if it's been dropped while open. The lens gets stuck in the extended position, and refuses to move either to focus the lens or to retract when powered off.

If your camera is still under warranty, the best thing you can do have Polaroid should fix it. If your camera is out of warranty, or if Polaroid refuses to repair it for free, the one thing you can try is to If you gently, and I do mean GENTLY push against the lens with the PALM of your hand as you turn it on, it may cause it to depress back into the camera. If that doesn't work, and you can't reset it or turn it on/off several times, then you may have to send it in for a repair estimate anyway.
