My warranty has expired n I paid a fortune to buy this system. Isn't their anything I can do to get this frozen disk problem remedied. I have the latest update, updated it on the 23/03 thinking that it would have the patch though its still the same. Its really very annoying. If it was to be fixed how much r we expecting to spend?
If I can get the hardware shipped I may be able to fix it my self. Can some body give me the link to get hold of the Hardware?

This can be caused by a dirty laser in the drive. Try cleaning the laser with a q-tip and alcohol. If this does not fix the problem, the laser may need to be replaced. Contact Sony and see if the unit is still under warranty.
This error is caused because of your PS3 lens. It's probably dirty because of a long period from dust build up. So to fix this problem, it's high likely that you need to open up your console and fix it from within, but how?
Well, in order to fix an error like this, you can do 2 things. You either send your console over to Sony, or you will actually fix the problem all by yourself. But, what's the best option to do?
A Couple Of Tips That Might Fix The PS3 Disk Read Error
1) Restart your PlayStation 3. 2) Check for loose cables. 3) Unplug all cables, and plug them all back in correctly. 4) Take out the hard drive, and put it back in correctly.

PS3 Disk Read Error Fix By Sony, Do Or Don't?
This sounds like a pretty normal and good option right? But, you wanted a cheap, quick and an easy fix right? Well, then this option isn't your cup of tea. When you do this, you'll have to pay $150. But, this only needed if your warranty has been expired.
Also, you will have to wait for 4-8 weeks before you console will be fixed.
Fix Ps3 Disk Read Error All By Yourself With The Use Of A Repair Guide?
Actually, this is your best option that you've got. You see, when you do this the repair will be cheap, quick and as long as you use a repair guide, it will be pretty easy too! In fact, I highly recommend you to take a look at this video and also on precautions.
Leser Cleaning: This laser is super sensitive. Do not touch it with your finger or anything that could potentially damage it or leave a mark.
1) Canned Air. Get a can with a mini straw and blow it out pretty good. If it's giving you problems, blow out the ventilation ports as well.
2) Disc Cleaner. Best buy makes a disc cleaner that looks like a DVD. This is not the best way to go but it might work. Ask an employee what they recommend using.
3) Q-tip. If you have already opened it; or are past warranty and desperate to get it cleaned, open up the console and with a Q-tip dipped in a very small amount of rubbing alcohol (make sure it's not wet, just damp) SUPER LIGHTLY give the laser one good rub.
Please make sure you're giving it a good means of ventilation and ensure to never put it on carp
dont... there is no need to open your ps3 at the moment.... its the update that screwed your ps3...
you arent alone with this problem, i got the exsact same problem, i even tried to clean the lens with no luck. so thats why i say dont to cleaning it, cuz it wont work.
and about now alot would say "then your lens is fried, go buy a new" but im 10000000% sure it aint, and a cleaning wont work eather.
other fact is that i acually can load my games if im really patient and want to eject and insert the disk about a 100 times before it reads it, and if it was fried it woulden even read the disk at all...
so just hang in there ps3 bud, and wait to they gonna release a new update that will fix it...
Try resetting your PS3 by holding down power icons on front side until it beeps once then twice If it still gives you the same message Get it serviced Don't try to do it yourself, unless warranty has expired!!!!
there is no solution to this i called sony, and they said it is an optical drive problem, u have to send it back, and pray u have a warranty... sadly i dont... 150$ for a problem i did not even ******* cause ****
You can back up ANYTHING you wish to keep via the backup utility what I'm about to tell you to do will essentially erase your harddrive. After backing up any data you wish to keep, restore your PS3 system and to a FULL ( not quick ) format of your harddrive ( this will probably take a couple of hours ). After that, if it still doesn't work call SONY.
