The display is black. I can hear the audio from the cable, but no picture is displayed. I can't see anything, not even the menu bar. What could be wrong with the display?

The light tube ( florescent ) has failed and the inverter to control the video is in need of service ( removal and replace) there may be bad filter capacitors also that need replacement. Unless they are surface mounted then you will be replacing a module or swapping the main-board with new one.

Youtube on my vizio 470i tv is off centered

CHANGING THE SCREEN ASPECT RATIO: ( From Manual )
The TV can display images in four different modes: Wide, Zoom, Panoramic, and Normal. Each mode displays the picture differently. To change the screen aspect ratio:
1. Press the MENU button on the remote.
2. Use the Arrow buttons to highlight the Wide icon. Press OK.
3. Use the Arrow buttons to highlight your desired screen mode and press OK:
• Normal preserves the content's original aspect ratio. Since the 4:3 aspect ratio is not large enough to fill the TV's screen, black bars are added to the left and right of the display image.
• Wide stretches a 4:3 aspect ratio picture to the edges of the screen. Since the picture is being stretched, the display image may appear distorted. If the program is already formatted for widescreen viewing (1.85:1 or 2.35:1), then black bars will appear on the top and bottom of the display image.
• Zoom expands images with black bars to fit the screen.
• Panoramic expands the display image to fill the screen.
images may appear wider than intended.
If you are watching widescreen (1.85:1 or 2.35:1) content, black bars will still appear on the top and bottom of the display image. This option is only available when the TV is displaying a 480i/480p source.

My toshiba model 46rf350 doesn't have a picture

OK!
Do you see any characters on your display? If yes: channel info, menu, volume bar? Means: you don't have any video info coming through. Main board is most likely candidate for replacement. Next scenario: TV powers up, but you see only display glowing, no characters, no info. t-con(display adapter) board is at fault.
Last one: you can hear the sound from TV speakers( not from your surround system), but display is "black". Power supply's ballast or "inverter" quit. If you answered "yes" to one of possible issues, give me more details, please. I will guide yourself over basic troubleshooting.
Good luck,
Alex.

I have a tv/dvd flatscreen televsion. It is only a year old. The problem is I can not hear anything. My television is displaying the screen and movies/television is working fine, just no volume. Please...

Does the the little bar graph on screen volume display react when you turn the volume up and down or does it say something like TV VOLUME IS FIXED?

Try using your remote to look in your tv's MENU for the AUDIO OPTIONS.

Check to make sure the SPEAKER option is turned ON.

If that doesnt work, try running a cable from your tv's audio out jacks in the back to one of your home stereo's AUX inputs and see if you can hear the tv through your stereo.

Good Luck.

Black bars on top and bottom of screen

It sounds as if you have accidentally entered widescreen mode. Explore the on screen menu to find the widescreen option & switch it back.
