if cleaning the laser dosent fix the problem you can use a computer dvd rom drive to replace the original one.

the latch releasing the door not functioning, is ther a pin hole u can place paper clip to release?

I think the DL error code is door lock. Carefully inspect ths lock and latch. Tighten up anything loose.

Sounds like the gear is failing in the ice maker unit. I would replace it.

when you put the dvd in does the motor laser make any noise if not then thats the problem it dosent let it spin,and if it dont spin the laser cant read,thats usally a main problem on all dvd players,not worth fixing cus parts an labor to much,if my info was at in help to you please leav a comment ,thank you

this drive uses generic drivers, just right click on my computer, click manage, click on device manager, then right click and choose scan for hardware changes. it should be fixed

Have you tried Windows Explorer; "right" click on the drive and select 'Eject'?

Also, if it's not reading at times - sounds like dirty lense; use CD/DVD cleaner; you can buy those anywhere these days very cheaply.
