Any place that sells air compressors and accessories will have the parts you need. Just take the old parts with you for a replacement.

My Porter Cable pancake air compressor is getting too hot and melting my air hose

ASSUMING THIS IS AN ELECTRIC MOTOR DRIVEN SINGLE STAGE COMPRESSOR, IF THE COMPRESSOR USES OIL IN THE CRANKCASE, THE PRESSURE SWITCH SHOULD CUT OFF AT 125 PSI AS THE ACT OF COMPRESSION HEATS THE AIR QUITE HOT. THERE IS ALWAYS SOME OIL THAT PASSED THE PISTON RINGS IN THE COMPRESSED AIR. IF THE COMPRESSED AIR GETS HOT ENOUGH, THE OIL VAPOR CAN IGNITE AND THE FLAME CAN CARRY TO THE TANK FOR AN IMPRESSIVE EXPLOSION. THIS ORDINARILY DOES NOT HAPPEN BELOW 175PSI OR MORE.

OILLESS COMPRESSORS CAN BE SET TO 150 PSI. WITH EITHER TYPE OF COMPRESSOR, THE HOSE SHOULD BE ATTACHED TO THE REGULATOR OR THE REGULATOR STACK, NEVER TO THE COMPRESSOR, AS THE COMPRESSED AIR LOSES MUCH OF ITS HEAT WHILE IN THE RECEIVER. IF THE WHOLE TANK IS GETTING HOT ENOUGH TO MELT A PROPERLY ATTACHED HOSE, YOU HAVE A DANGEROUS SITUATION, CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE PRESSURE SWITCH, UNLOADER VALVE AND RELIEF VALVE. THE RELIEF VALVE SHOULD OPEN AT NO MORE THAN 150 PSI, THE UNLOADER VALVE OPENS WHEN THE PRESSURE SWITCH SHUTS THE MOTOR OFF, AND SHOULD ONLY HISS FOR A FEW SECONDS AS IT DUMPS THE PRESSURE ONLY IN THE COMPRESSOR AND THE LINE FROM THE COMPRESSOR TO THE TANK INLET CHECK VALVE. IF THE UNLOADER VALVE HISSES MORE THAN A FEW SECONDS, THE TANK INLET CHECK VALVE IS LEAKING AND NEEDS TO BE SERVICED, CLEANED OR REPLACED. IF THERE IS CARBON BUILD UP IN THE VALVE, THERE IS EXCESS OIL PASSING THE COMPRESSOR PISTON RINGS, REPLACING THEM MIGHT FIX THAT IF THE CYLINDER OR RING LANDS ON THE PISTON ARE NOT TOO TAPERED OR WORN.

I have a Black Cat portable air compressor model BC2502. It doesn't build air just runs

Ron:

You have an air leak somewhere. I use a pump-spray bottle with a soap and water solution while the compressor is running. Spray the soap solution on each end of the copper tube leading from the compressor motor to the air tank and look for bubbles. Correct any bad connections (tighten and/or replace any packings) Spray each hose coupler with the solution and look for bubbles. If there are no leaks, you may have to remove the cylinder head and check the valves in the valve body between the cylinder head and the cylinder. You will need to buy replacement gaskets if you remove the head from the cylinder.

Porter cable FR350 round head nailer type 2 fires when it is connected to air hose and won't fire afterward

Various nailers will fire on their own when connected to air if the orings have become hard or worn and internal trigger valve parts worn-out (mostly Dewalt and P/C). You could buy an oring kit or purchase trigger valve seperately. Replacing trigger valve and lubing the headvalve with white grease will most likely solve the problem. After repairing the gun, be sure to remove the nails from the mag after each use to prevent possible discharge of nail. Good luck

Compressor sucks air in through the outlet quick connect where the hose attaches. won't build pressure.

I have seen this condition many times. Usually, the comperssor head was removed for cleaning or repair and the valve plate was assembled incorrectly. Easy fix. Remove the head and flip the valve plate. Make sure that other components are correct. Examine plate for warping, gaskets for signs of leaking. Make sure that the motor is turning in the correct direction (fan blades on compressor pulley blowing air towards pump). Finally, take a look at the intank check valve. The valve will allow air into the tank and not let it flow back to the pump. In your case the valve must be faulty because because air was flowing from quick connect to pump. Good luck

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

It's better if you can replace the hoses. Piston rings are surely worn and needs replacement. I strongly suggest that during these cases an air valve replacement is much recommended.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

I have an 80 gal Craftsman air compressor who just shut down, the pressure is dropping, it made a smoke smell and it blew my circuit breaker. I tried starting my circuit breaker but it kept flipping off....

Usually related to the in-tank check valve. Follow the discharge hose from the pump to the tank. At the tank the hose attaches to a brass valve (or metal valve). This brass fitting is the check valve. It's purpose is to hold air in the tank and not allow the air to load the compressor when motor is trying to start. Easy to test. Use another compressor to pump air into your tank thru the quick disconnect or remove the safety valve and install hose there. Pump in about 75 psi and looks for leaks with soapy water. Remove air inlet hose from check valve and check for air leaks. If leaking, replace with generic valve available at www.grainger.com or order from sears parts. If no leaks then suspect unloader is not working at the pressure switch. If both the unloader and check valve is ok then test capacitor for reading within 95% of rated valve. Good holidays

My Air Mate MK190 compressor does not pump up preasure.

Check the pitcock valve to make sure it is closed. This valve is used to drain moisture in the tank and could be damaged or open. Make sure the safety valve is not stuck open (it is spring loaded and has a ring attached to it). Last is to check the tube connections from the tank to the compressor housing (be carefully, the tubes and housing could be hot). Do you hear any air leaks? You can use some dish soap and water to drip some on the hose fittings and valves to help see the air leaks. Other than that, it sounds like the motor connection or piston.

I purchased a replacement part (air chuck) at Wal*Mart. Lubricate the end with soap so it will slide inside the hose and then secure it with a small hose clamp. And, as previously stated. In March, 2006, Black & Decker purchased Vector Products, Inc. Since the acquisition, Black & Decker has assumed the manufacturing of all Vector products. The compressor continues to run but no air enters the tire, the tire just seems to get more and more flat.

Hi, I suspect the plunger for the valve stem connector on the pressure head is not depressing the air release pin in the head of the valve stem.

I have a Black and Decker and have to use a valve stem seat removal tool to quicky unscrew about 3 to 4 turns the stem seal and then connect the air hose head. After the tire reaches the correct air pressure I have go thru the tighten the valve stem seat drill.

You can buy the vavle stem seat tool at any auto parts store. I keep mine with the compressor.

I don't want this to sound bad but... is the air hose supply vavle turned on? Some have a slider button on the valve you have to push to charge the hose. If the hose is charged then see above.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Replacing rubber hose on air compressor

You should be able to replace it, but it will require disassembling the unit. I do not have a diagram for you, but it shouldn't be too hard.

If you need more help, post a comment.

Thanks,
