Many things could be the cause:

1. bad battery
2. bad shutter
3. bad CCD sensor
4. Bad flash

The thing is to do is take it to a local camera shop and have them look at it. there is no way we can pinpoint it here on fixya specially without further details on the camera.

thanks and please leave ratinga and feedback.

Have you tried charging the battery or changing batteries in your camera? If that doesn't work try removing the battery or batteries and reinstalling them.

My camera will turn on then shut off a few seconds after even if it has been charging for an hour whats wrong?

Most likely the lens is jammed or stuck. The unit is trying to initialize, and not being able to, shutting itself down. Dust and sand can work it's way into the lens assembly, and jam the gears. You can try to spray it out with compressed air to try and free it up. If that doesn't work, here's some things you can try:
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
The page is for lens errors, but it applies to your problem.
They say about 50% of the cameras with a lens error/shutdown problem can be fixed.
Good luck, thanks for using FixYa, and hope this helps.

Go into the menu and scroll to "reset"...follow the on-screen instructions. If that doesn't work, you need to take the new Nikon back.

Canon EOS 40D not working when turned on

I'm sorry to tell you this but you do NOT have anything set wrong. To test my theory turn your camera to full auto. Next make sure your switch on the lens is set to auto. Then just try taking some shots of some objects across the room. If that doesn't allow you to take pictures do the exact same test with a different lens. That way you've taken the lens out of the equation. Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer but I'm pretty sure you'll need to return the camera to cannon.

Problem with the flash of my camera

Hi

Your flash is defective and needs to be replaced.

One solution is to look online for a defective camera and use the parts to fix yours. Another is to buy a flash from someone like us who sells new and used parts and performs repairs if you can't do it yourself.

Please feel free to check us out, Google: Darntoothysam and you will find us, I cant post a link.

Thanks and good luck from Darntoothysam com
