Question about Toshiba REGZA 42WLG66 42 in. HD-Ready LCD Television
I have a 42 inch Toshiba Regza that has always worked fine but the other day I went to go from an HD channel to a standard 480i format and the screen went black and all I could hear was the sound. I tried my xbox and vcr which both had the same result, black screen with sound. The sound works just fine but you can't see any picture so I'm trying to figure out if this is something that can be fixed or if I'm screwed.
That sounds like the backlight system or its powersupply has failed. If you can see an ghost like image when close and at an angle near the dge (depends on the light) then this confirms the backlight being the problem.
Repair cost should be about $100. You should be able to get this fixed under warrenty if you have any. If not get repair estimates before doing anything. It should be worth fixing but it never hurts to know if it is getting close to what a new replacment tv is worth.
