Is that the fan which cools the CPU. If it is, replace it ASAP. An overheated CPU will deliberately slow down to save itself from burning out. With time the fan will eventually grind to a halt and pop one CPU may make it's last byte turn to dust.

Check your bios after your computer has been running for some time. Just reboot and enter your bios and you should be able to check the temperature of the CPU If it's extreme you know the fan isn't doing it's job. Don't try repairing or lubricating the fan they're not built for it. Just get a good quality replacement. Take the old one with you when you go shopping just to make sure you get the correct one.

Now, if it's the power supply fan many of the newer ones are designed to slow down when the temperture is lower and speed up should things get hotter. This shouldn't affect the speed of the computer though unless the interior of the computer is overtaxing the cooling of the CPU (back to square one) Possibly your computer has a virus or nasty slowing it down and the fan thing is just coincidental. But I'll guess it's the CPU fan you refer to and I've covered that. Should you have any problems feel free to write back

Good Luck

Your fan has nothing to do with your computer slowing down.
your fan goes on when a threshold is reach in the cpu temperature or another component's temperature being cooled. the question is what's is causing your cpu or your chipset to work harder than usual causing your system to seem to be sluggish??

the simple answer is malware and need for a clean up and tune up

I suggest you do the following:

1. get an air can, open the case and without touching anything and watching for ESD, dust off your system free.

2. close the case and turn your computer on

3. update your antivirus and run deep scans

4. get all critical updates for your system from windows update

5. download, spybot search and destroy, malwarebytes, superantispyware, and a square free edition, update them and run deep scans.

6. defrag your hard drive

7. to improve perforamance make sure you update or upgrade memory

good luck!

Engine temperature reaches to high before cooling cycle begins

could be a bad temp sensor or faulty thermostat. so by cooling cycle do you mean electric fan, or water circulation. a bad thermostat will slow circulation down causing overheat even if cooling fans are on. a bad sensor will not operate electric fan properly or at all and car will get hot at idle or slow speed and cooler at higher speed. Keep in mind that electric fans can turn on at any given time so KEEP ALL FINGERS AND LOOSE CLOTHIG AWAY at all times.

Slow start up and shut down

Hello,

You didn't mention what version of Windows (Is it Windows, or is it Linux / other?) that you are using. For laptops in particular, windows sometimes gets confused as to which power saving state that the laptop should be in.

Next time that windows is running, you should see an icon of either a battery, or of a power plug in the area next to the clock (lower right corner). If you LEFT click on this, there will be a list of various power schemes that are available. MAX BATTERY will reduce the processor speed the most, while ALWAYS ON turns off power saving altogether, and allows the laptop to run at full speed.

If your fan always seems to be on, or seems to be cycling on and off rapidly even though you are doing little with the computer, then you might need to have the fan and heatsink cleaned out (consult a computer shop). When the processor starts to run hot, the motherboard will begin to slow it down regardless of the power scheme.

You might also be looking at a program that is loading during startup (did you just happen to install Open Office by chance?) that also takes a while to unload while shutting down. Consider what you have recently installed, and check your startup menu (click start >> programs >> startup ) to see what is being loaded there.

GE JVM1430 over the range microwave/exhaust fan unit. The exhaust fan (not the microwave cooling fan) all of a sudden has its speed slowed down considerably. The unit vents out the back, not top. ...

Sounds like a strip down of the fan and lubricate the bearings with sewing machine or thin cycle oil will do the trick.
Hope that helps.

I just installed a Hunter five minute fan which says it is called the augusta. I have also installed several other hunter fans in my house through the years, and they seem to move extremely fast especially...

Speed is not a factor in moving air. You can move air with a little fan that runs real fast or you can move the same amount of air with a big fan that moves slow.

It is the pitch of the blades that moves air. Big blades with steep pitch moving slow are comparable to little blades with shallow pitch that move fast.

It seems to me someone is trying to baffel you with bull**** when they tell you CFM = watts or something similar.

The real question is, is the fan moving the air necessary to achieve the result you desire? If yes, speed is not really a factor.

Let me know if this helps you.

Shutdown Issues

It could be overheating, either you need to replace the fan, or at least open it up and remove any dust (bunnies) that may have built up inside, if your fan is gummed up it won't spin which then causes computer to overheat.

My computer is overheating and how do u clean the fan

need to blow all the dust out of the vents on the side and bottom of laptop and check out the fan while the laptop is running. If the fan seems to be running slow, the bearings may be damaged and you may need to get another fan.

Error code of 6 flashing light on circuit board,

There appears to be a short in the unit. Not sure where. The power to the fan is not interrupted completly when the fan shuts down, still feeding voltage to the fan, keeping it running slow. Before checking the wiring, please turn off power first.

Problem in scanned images uploading

If you have 50 units of computer working the same time such as uploading big files, the problem for the rest among your 7 computers that work fast is between the hub connectors on the network system. You can check this connectors by replacing those slow ones to that faster computers.
Then if your faster computers slow down and the replaced connectors from slow working bacomes fast then the problem is in your hub distribution connectors.
If you had trace to that problem, then replace the whole unit of hub connectors.
