Question about Dell 2300MP Multimedia Projector

2 Answers

Have Dell 2300MP projector. When plug into AC power, on/off button blinking green. push on/off button to power up, goes solid green, no fan, no projector lamp, after about 90 sec orange LAMP warning led comes on. Used compressed air just now to try to blow out any built up dust inside unit. Was not able to open enclosure, just stuck compressed air can straw nozzle into ventalation slots. Still same problem - no change. Any other suggestions? How to dissassemble?

I am an electronic engineer and former electonic repair tech. I discovered that the enclosure did not open easily after taking out all visible screws, and I did not want to chance breaking any plastic. This is a friend's projector. I don't want him to become an enemy unnecessarily! I used the compressed air because I read on a website that some projectors will shut down when dust gets on some innerds. This unit turned out to not be very dusty inside from the amount of dust that came out when I blasted it from externally. The owner of the projector called Dell support and the call center person thought the bulb to still be good from the description of the problem. The call center person thought it might be the lamp controller chip or the fan/fan controller chip. If I can get the thing apart and see a crateror discoloration in one of the components I can possibly look for a replacement and solder it in after removing the bad part. BestBuy wants a min of $250 to repair. Similar price for Dell and 4-6wk turnaround time. Thought I could save my friend some time and $$.

The case may be you got a bad lamp or ballast, I do not have step by step screw by screw opening procedures for this model but would direct your attention to a repair shop or a tech nearby. The issue is the lamp light came on and the process is change the lamp and reset the lamp counter while in the unit the tech will clean out whatever is plaguing the unit. but to do a non user serviceable repair on this is highly not recommended. Just sticking air in its vents will not satisfy the problem the unit will need to be worked on inside, if you do not have the expertise to set this a part then I require of you to take it into maybe a best buy or whatever computer dealer to have it serviced.

Best of luck to you.

Knowing a case is held by a heat glued seal that can be easily broken with a plastic bread clip thus the projector will come open. I feel I deserve at least a heads up on whom I am talking to before I lay out a full blown repair job. People come on here wanting a magic stick waved at there units or some fairy dust to make them work, but I do not have those legendary things in my arsenal.

From what dell is saying about a fan chip of some sort the bulb would still light up even if the fan failed.. But I guess you where looking for the exact same non sense that dell was shoveling over there India based phone center? Those people are not techs those people are $3 dollar per hour commissioned script readers.

Say if it was the board you still need to replace the whole board but it looks like we are putting a cart in front of the horse here, please try to open it up with the method I said more common the not it was heat glued or snapped in.

    1. check the lamp

    2. check the ballast

    3. check the board like that said ( you never know)

But please do not hate me I am here for your best interest I had no idea you had credentials to fix this thing.

I will be looking forward to hearing from you soon. Please use the accept button if you feel that my advice may help you to a fix. Thanks

You are facing over heating problem in projector . The projector fan is failing and the projector shuts off . You need to replace the fan in your projector to solve this problem. If fan is working fine you will have the lamp light to come on and everything works fine .

Hope this helps .

Replacing the lamp module requires special considerations:
  1. Turn off the projector.
  2. Wait 30 minutes for the projector to cool down and then unplug it.
  3. On the bottom of the projector, loosen the two screws on the lamp cover and then remove the cover.
  4. Loosen the two screws on the lamp module and pull out the module.
  5. Insert the new lamp module and tighten the two screws.
  6. Install the cover and tighten the two screws.
  7. Turn on the projector. If the lamp does not turn on after the warm-up period, try reinstalling the lamp again.
  8. Press enter on the projector or on the remote control to open the on-screen menu.
  9. Press the up (c00589410.gif ) or down (c00589411.gif ) arrow to select Setup and then press the right (c00589412.gif ) arrow.
  10. Press the up (c00589410.gif ) or down (c00589411.gif ) arrow to select Reset lamp hours and then press enter .

Wont light up

the colorwheel needs replacing. if the colorwheel won't spin, the lamp won't light. if you hear a high-pitched whir, the colorwheel works, which means there is a power supply issue. there is a fix for that, but you have to be good at soldering. if you are give it a try:

Check that you replaced the lamp in the right way, and also that the unit is well reassembled, you may also need to reset lamp counter from menu on some model.

A couple of things...

If the fan is not working, the lamp will not fire. If you have the owner's manual, it should indicate what the flashing lights mean. Check to make sure that the panels are seated properly. When you replaced the lamp, the outer cover was removed. If that is not seated back 100%, the unit will not work. There are a number of safety "checks" built into the unit to prevent damage and possibly fire as the lamps get really hot.

Check the items above and let us know your progress.

The projector lamp comes on (amber color) no image

I was told by an expert that the fan should come on as soon as heat starts to come on. You should never turn a projector off with out the fan running for a while to cool the bulb down. Each projector is different but the fan has to operate on then all. There is so much heat in the bulbs that air has to keep them cool when they are operating as well have to cool gradually when they are shut down.

Dell 2300MP - no power

It looks like you may have a loose contact somewhere around the AC input. Try pushing the AC cord or wiggle it gently, if power comes back on; you have a loose connection.
