Question about Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
What model is your DVD drive? It is entirely likely that your firmware needs to be updated for the drive.
Find out the model of your drive, and visit the manufacturer's website, which will direct you to any firmware updates that may have been released.
As a footnote, it may simply be the speed of your DVD drive. Slower speed drives, naturally, read slower, which, in this day and age, can be replaced easily for a very small cost.
