Hello!
To refill your cartridges, you will need a syringe, a needle, ink of course, some toilet paper or tissue and gloves (recommended!).
Turn the printer on, open the cover and remove the cartridges from the printer.

1. BLACK CARTRIDGE:

  • Peel off the top label- you should see several holes.
  • Fill the syringe with 10-15ml. of black ink.
  • Slowly inject ink in any of the holes (the best way is to pour a bit in each hole, so the sponge inside can absorb more ink)
  • If any ink starts coming out from the refill holes, remove 1 or 2ml of ink.
  • Also, always check if there is ink leaking from the print head (The nozzle or print head is the porous metal piece at the bottom of the cartridge). If there is, simply remove some ink.
  • Gently wipe the electric contacts on your cartridge.
2. COLOR CARTRIDGE:
  • Peel off the top label.
  • You will see 5 holes. The one on the top is for yellow. The two holes on the left are for magenta (red), and the ones on the right are for cyan (blue). Here is a picture:
how do i refill the # 96 & 97 ink cartridges - cad76cd.jpg

  • Slowly pour 3-5ml. of each color in the appropriate hole.
  • If ink starts leaking, either from the refill hole or the print head, remove 1-2ml of ink.
  • Gently wipe the contacts on the cartridge.
A few tips:
  • Always make sure that you do not insert air along with the ink, because there will be white streaks on your printouts.
  • Once you have refilled your cartridges, your printer will give you a "low ink" message, which is normal, because the printer can't know that someone has refilled the cartridges. The printer "sees" your cartridges by their serial number, and the ink level will show again once you put in a new cartridge. I suggest you just ignore the message (the estimated ink level is never right anyway), and always look at your printouts- if the colors are faded, or one of the colors is missing, that is a sign that you should refill your cartridges again.
  • Also, if you haven't been printing regularly (at least once a week), the print quality might be poor. You can do a software print head cleaning:
  1. Press the "setup" button on your printer.
  2. Use the arrow keys to select "Tools", then press the ok button.
  3. Select "Clean Print Cartridge", then press ok.
  4. Your printer will then print a test page, which you should examine. If the print quality is good, you're good to go.
  5. If the problem is still there, open the "printer toolbox":
-On your computer, open the Control Panel
-Double click on "Printers and Faxes".
-Right click your printer icon and select "Properties".
-Click on "Printing preferences".
-Click the "Services" tab.
-Then, click on "Service this device" icon.
-The printer toolbox opens.
-On the "Device Services" tab.
-Click on "Clean the print cartridges", then follow the on-screen instructions. (there are three levels of cleaning available). Just bear in mind that software cleaning uses a lot of your ink!

You can also try cleaning the cartridge yourself:
  • Place the clogged nozzles in warm water and soak them until the dried ink begins to flow from the nozzle.
  • After a few minutes of letting the dried ink flow, remove the nozzles from the water and dry it with a soft tissue.

  • If that doesn't help, you might have some air left in your cartridge: try inserting air in the syringe and blow it in one of the refill holes (close the other ones with your fingers). A small amount of ink should be emitted from the nozzles upon injection.
  • Clean the print head and the contacts on your cartridge and pop them back in the printer.
Hope that will help!

Regarding your recent inquiry about the HP 96 or HP 96 ink cartridge poor print quality problems with your HP printer (i.e. severe print fade, streaking, degraded or missing colors), we suggest you perform the following corrective steps to help resolve the issue:

Cartridge & Printer maintenance should be evaluated - ensure both ink cartridges and flex cable contact surfaces (where the cartridge interfaces to the carriage inside the printer) are thoroughly clean: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1519

1) Gently blot the cartridge Nozzle Plate with a damp lint-free towel/wipe - a small amount of ink should be dispensed, and be visible, on the towel (all 3 colors should be present for a Tri-color cartridge).

2) If no ink is dispersed from nozzle plate (i.e. visible on towel) or ink cartridge completely fails to print on paper after installed in printer, then more drastic cartridge and printer cleaning steps will likely need to be performed to recover ink cartridge (NOTE: foam inside cartridge can dry out and become very hard - the foam must be moist with ink to function correctly (i.e. ink flows and wets the nozzle plate). Refer to 'clogged ink cartridge recovery' video here: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2818

Providing the ink cartridges are clean, the problem may be caused by a dirty wiper blade or poor seal in the service station (capping station where the ink cartridges park when not in use) and this is causing the poor jetting / print performance issue you are observing. Remove the ink cartridges and thoroughly clean the wipers and seals: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1519

If the issue continues then please refer to 'Troubleshooting' section on our website - the printer manufacturer websites are also provided here: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=106

Run a quick printer 'self test' (see link below for instructions) or print one of the Inkjet411 test prints to evaluate cartridge performance (i.e. 4-color test print): http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=146

Advanced HP Printer Diagnostics (i.e. printer self tests, etc.): http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1813

You can also check our 'Print Quality' page of the 'General Information' section of the Inkjet 411 website and follow additional suggestions provided, particularly if the cartridge is not causing the poor image quality problem (i.e. printer driver settings issue): http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1432

If the poor print quality problem persists please return the cartridge to Costco and request the operator to 'stamp test' the ink cartridge.

---------
NOTE: If your printer works routinely after inserting a brand new HP integrated ink cartridge in it, this will confirm that the ink cartridge's internal foam was too dry to recover or the internal micro-electronics were electrically damaged.

How can I reset my pitney bowes ink cartridge

The ink cartridges should notbe reset or reused, rregardless ofwwhat some refill places tell you they are made for a single use & refilled ccartridges frequently leak or clog the lines in the meter.

If you are referringto the waste ink ttan, that can be reset using the tech code 6946 then press refill ppostag, go thru the menu todiagnostics, printer, page down & rreplace waste tank & reset. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ACTUALLY REPLACE THE WASTE TANK.

Refilled ink cartrige still showing empty is their any way to reset printer

Regarding your HP Officjet Pro 8600 printer and refilled HP 950/951 ink cartridges and the "low ink" messages. Depending on your ink refiller (or if you did it yourself?), a replacement chip may or may not have been installed with the recently refilled cartridge(s). Refer to picture on our support site to first determine which type of cartridge configuration you have, then refer to the applicable section to address the current cartridge error(s) or printer issues.
http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1999

NOTE: Costco USA's Ink Refill service now 'chips' all refilled ink cartridges which fully restores all functions to that of a regular HP (OEM) ink cartridge and customer experience. For USA ink refill store locations and details on ink refill pricing:

Costco USA Ink Refill Service (all 453+ stores): http://www.costcoinkjetrefill.com

Fry's Electronics Ink Refill Service (all 34 stores): http://www.frys.com/ads/page51

Micro Center Ink Refill Service: http://www.microcenter.com/site/content/refill-service.aspx

Refer to Section A if your refiller attached a new replacement chip (green in color) onto the cartridge. Refer to Section B if only the original HP chip is attached.

----

CAUTION: Be advised, the use of compatible/clone cartridges (i.e. sold thru the internet from China) are known to be problematic and may cause printer errors and/or permanent PRINTHEAD failures (due to incompatible ink formulations). We do NOT suggest refilling these types of ink cartridges.....refilling of original/genuine ink cartridges is only suggested! HP original/genuine ink cartridges can be identified by the visible HP logo on the front label of the cartridge.

Large ink spill. Printer no longer recognized new black cartridge.

You can perform the Tap 41 Cartridge Health Diagnostics Test: [applies to HP Deskjet 6800/6900/9800]
http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1741 (refer to 2nd video to understand how to read the printed pattern)

1. With printer power on, press and hold the POWER button.
2. Press the Cancel (X) button four (4) times.
3. Press the RESUME button (Down Arrow) once.
4. Release the POWER button.
5. The Diagnostic Test Report should print.

--- A good HP 93/95/97/99 color cartridge should display 600 good nozzles, while a good HP 92/94/96/98 black ink cartridge should show 672 good nozzles. If the results yield anything different then the ink cartridge is likely damaged and will need to be replaced. Refer to 2nd video on how to read the printout: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1741

---- If the printer attempts to print the diagnostic test pattern (1 page) then the printer is generally considered operational and functional, if nothing is printed, but the printer attempts to print the pattern, then the tri-color ink cartridge is either empty, clogged or severely electrically damaged (black ink cartridge is not used). You can remove the tri-color cartridge, reactivate the tap 41 test and the printer will print the diagnostic test print in black ink (special "ink back-up mode").

Is the cartridge "new" or "refilled" ?

Remove the ink-cartridge.
Turn the printer off.
Disconnect the AC power cord.
Reconnect the AC power cord.
Turn the printer on.
Re-insert the ink-cartridge, and be sure that it is "seated" fully and correctly.

“Lexmark does not support the refilling of its ink cartridges. Refilling the ink cartridges can cause them to leak, thus clogging or even damaging the print head. Any damage to your printer caused by refilled ink cartridges may not be covered under warranty”. Please use genuine Lexmark cartridges for best results.

How to reset the ink level for a HP 60 ink cartridge? I have just refilled a HP 60 black ink cartridge but can not find anything on how to reset the ink level. I would do the "3 ink cartridge" trick but I...

You cannot reset the ink level indicator for the HP 60 ink cartridge. It shouldn't matter anyway because the level is only estimated for "management purposes only" (see user manual) meaning to let you know when it's near time to order a new cartidge. I have tried cycling through 3 different cartridges to reset the ink level for the one I refilled but it didn't work. Refill and just ignore the ink level indicator. Also, it's a good idea to clean the print heads with the solvent in the refill kit before refilling to remove old ink and imrpove print quality.
