Bad Magnetron. Unfortunately, and especially on high power microwaves, magnetrons do die. They'll probably run you between 100 and 300 dollars to replace. If you believe that your microwave is within warranty(not likely), contact the manufacturer for repairs. Otherwise, it may just be cheaper to purchase a new microwave.

Sorry that this answer doesn't produce a happy result, but it's an unfortunate fault of microwaves as a whole.

Temperature at 10 power level

It does not work that way. The microwave OVEN generates (electromagnetic) microwaves that are absorbed by the molecules of the food in the oven, the container and the air.
The absorption rate depends on the molecular composition. After enough microwave energy is absorbed the overall temperature increases and the food is warmed, heated or cooked. If your mixture is inhomogeneous some parts absorb more energy while other absorb less and you can have hot spots.

The power level by itself won't give you an indication of the temperature because you need to know the time that the power has been applied. In simple terms Energy =time*power. The temperature reached is somewhat proportional to the energy, that makes it dependent on the time and the power.

Everything works fine, except my food is still cold

Check the "power" level setting.

Most microwaves allow adjusting the power level from 1 to 10 (or 10 to 100 on some models). 10 (or 100) is the highest/quickest setting.

I can check mine by entering a time...then before pushing "start"....push the "power" button....and change the level if I want.

Buzzing sound... Turntable stopped. food heats up but uneven. No microwave fan when heating.. no light inside expensive fix?? Unit is 10 years old

If the microwave oven is 10 years old then it is time to consider a new unit, by your description it is going into cascade failure where different parts have stopped working, the buzzing sound is the magnetron warning you, it is about to fail. The fans job is to keep the magnetron cool while it is running.

I have a GE Profile XL1400 over-the range microwave which is about 12 years old. Suddenly yesterday morning the microwave would not cook the food. It turns on and runs just as it normally would, but the...

At the ripe old age of 12, the magnetron tube which makes the microwaves has most likely failed. A sudden no-heat condition is one of the most common ways they go. It's possible to replace the magnetron, but it would be an expensive repair. The tube is the most costly part, and this repair is one that should be left to a professional because of safety concerns. Between the part cost and labor, it usually more economical to replace the oven with a new one.

It is possible that something else is causing the problem, such as a failure of the control circuit board or the high-voltage power transformer. It's still not worth the repair since the 12-year old magnetron would be a failure waiting to happen. Take this opportunity to start fresh.

If you have an item overheating, try looking at the directions on the unit for the watts and adjust cooking time according to the oven. Some foods will explode if left for too long in a quick heating microwave oven. If this is a new problem and the microwave is 4 years old, you may consider the unit is beyond its useful life. Its difficult to tell w/o knowing the brand, but it could be the meagtron tube is simply wearing/worn out. Let me know if this helps. m
