The Control Lock is a safety feature that enables the consumer to lock the control panel to prevent small children from manipulating the controls and accidentally starting the appliance. This can usually be reset and does not require a technician.

With the lock on, the control panel is disabled and you cannot use any of the controls, except the button to unlock it. It can inadvertently be set following a power outage, leaning against the control panel, or pressing and holding the wrong button. This is usually not an indication of a malfunction.

If this is a Whirlpool manufactured front loader, the following link explains how to lock/unlock this feature:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608801-control_panel_lock

These instructions are also printed on the front panel of the appliance and in the owner's manual.

If this does not correct your problem, then you may have a more serious problem than a simple operator control button issue (such as an operator console problem or main control board issue). Please post back and let me know if you need further assistance.

A red padlock symbol is showing on the panel of my WCVH6800 front load washer. I can't change any of the wash settings. How do I fix this?

Here's what the Padlock represents:

Lock Function

You can lock the controls to prevent any selections from being made. Or you can lock the controls after you have started a cycle. children cannot accidentally start the washer by touching pads with this option selected.

To lock the washer, press and hold the DELAY START button for 3 seconds (on some models use SIGNAL button). To unlock the washer controls, press and hold the DELAY START button for 3 seconds. The control lock icon on the display will light up when it is on.

NOTE: The POWER button can still be used when the machine is locked.

Shows f70 and the door won't open

First there is a way to open the locked door and get your clothes out. On this model of Kenmore front load washer you can manually release the door lock.Unplug the washer from power. Remove the front lower inspection panel (see the first image), and reach up to the bottom of the door lock and pull down on the small teardrop tab. This will unlock the door lock and allow you to get the clothes out.
The F70 error is a control failure that occurs when a signal from the main control to the interface (touch pad) is not detected.
This can be caused by a loose harness connection at the interface or main control. The image below will show how to remove the top so you can check for lose connections. Be sure to unplug the washer first.
The F70 is an internal control problem. It can be caused by a failed central control board or an interface problem. The way to determine which part is bad when the error occurs is as follows:
  • If the error occurs when the machine is running then the problem is the interface.
  • If the error occurs when the washer is not running the problem is the central control unit.
The control and the interface are available from the following link: Sears PartsDirect . Use your model number to order the correct part for your washer.
