How do you remove the bolts on the mandrel cover of the mowing deck. The bolts begin to loosen but then seem to get tight again.

I would keep turning them, there may be old grass, dirt, etc. that's making them turn harder. If not look underneath deck to make sure theres no nuts on bolts.

Craftsman LT2000 Blade is staying engaged all the time, just did a blade mandrel replacement, where does the spring for the blade control reattach? What would make the blades be in motion all the time?...

sounds like you may not have the right mandrels making the belt to tight and it cant be left loose enough to allow the blades to quit turning.Otherwise you didnt put the belt back on correctly if it is around the tightener pully the wrong way that to will make the belt to tight

How to remove shaft assembly from mandrel housing of a husqvarna yth2348

It's much easier to do on the tractor.
1. Leave deck installed.
2. Jack tractor up and lower deck.
3. Run a heavy wire through the mandrel pulley's tie down hole.
4. Raise deck and tie wire around the deck.
5. Lower deck and remove top nut.
6. Raise deck and remove shaft.
You can modify this procedure to loose the nut if you don't have a jack and remove it once the deck is off. Retorque nut to 35 ft. lbs during install.

Replaced the mandrel on my Craftsman Model 917.273640 following the schematics on Parts Direct. When you put the pulley on the splines, there is too much play. It doesn't appear to tighten down as far as...

Yes a second washer would be acceptable as long as the splines on the shaft are at or slightly above the top of the pulley but it shouldn't be needed as long as the nut is torqued tight enough. Make sure the pulley is in good shape and the nut gets torqued down properly or the splines will tear up. There should have been a set of instructions with the new mandrel that gave the torque spec. Normally I just use a 1/2 inch drive craftsman air impact gun set to full power with about 100# air pressure. It is a rather large lock nut so it takes a lot of torque. Hope this helps. Please vote yes, thank you.

Sounds like a blade is hitting something on my Cub Cadet LT 1042.

with tractor off and key in pocket check blade for straightness if straight then check by moving it up down if loose check retaining nut if nut tight then possible mandrel bearing burnt or shaft bent also check the mandrels are bolted correctly to deck lastly but least likely is a bent deck

How can I un-bolt the Mandrel Pulley from the shaft?

If you have the deck removed from under the tractor you can try putting the blade back on tight if you have removed it and then use the blade to keep the mandrel shaft from turning. It takes quite a bit of torque to break the nut loose on the pulley so a socket and ratchet or breaker bar is the best thing to use. Other than that there is no "special" tool required

Mandrel chews pulley

Are you sure the spindle is not bent and also are you balancing the blades when sharpening. Other then that make sure bolts are tight on the mandrel. With the deck off and standing up spin the blades and watch center of balde to see if something is bent. Also watch pulley on the other side to see if its bent.

That 'Mandrel Housing' # has been changed to 492574. It should be available at just about any lawnmower shop, probably even at Wal-Mart.
