Yes, there's definitely a problem with the power communications portion on the main board. However, you cannot just easily conclude that the problem is the main board.

There could be some components that got shorted and needs to be replaced. It would be better if it's only the components, because it will not cost too much. If it's the main board, it's just like you buy a brand new iPod.

I would suggest to contact an experienced tech and have him fix it for you.

Thank you and good luck!

Yeah, unfortunately, we cannot find a schematic for iPod/iPad.

Once you open up your iPod, you need to check the lower-right hand corner of the PCB (depending on how you take a look at it). But that's corner is full of square capacitors and resistors.

You need to check if the components are giving out the correct value using a multi tester. For the capacitors and resistors of iPod, it's hard to see what the problem is by just looking at them.

Check and replace those defective components. If you have a defective board, you may get some of its components and use it to your defective main board. (Of course, the value should be the same).

    Thank you!

The Batteries in these units like all rechargeable batteries only have a certain number of times they can be charged and discharged before begining to fail. Your only option is to replace the battery with a new one. They are cheap to purchase off eBay and YouTube has Videos detailing how to change them.

I have a 30gb ipod classic it would not turn on and it keep reading battery very low please wait ...so to replaced the battery and it still saying the same thing my friend said that i need a new logic boad...

> is he right?

Maybe. If the cable that connects to the iPod that you use to recharge the battery is broken, then _NO_ battery (old or new) can get recharged. Borrow a cable from a friend, or connect your iPod to your friend's cable, to see if changing the cable allows the battery to charge.

If that does not help, then your friend could be correct.

Note that some "big-box" stores, such a BEST BUY, will take your iPod as a "trade-in" on a new iPod. Put the old battery back in before you do the trade-in, and sell the new battery on eBay or CraigsList.

Ipod classic works but no sound

This is common among the 30gb Video iPods. If you play your iPod on a Dock,
such as a iHome or other speaker device, for some reason, they like to take the
Mainboard out. Normally, if it's a headphone jack, the problem will start with
sound only playing on one side of the Headphones.

As a start, you can replace the headphone jack and see if it corrects your problem.
If not, you will need to replace the mainboard in your iPod.

Can't remember password

I had the same problem. And I coudn't remember my SCREEN LOCK Password as your son. So what I did was I just disconnecteed my IPOD while it was connected to itunes without properly ejecting. This method doesn't retrieve or resets the password, it justs opens your ipod out of the screen lock. so your son can hear his music as usual until he can get a password retreive helper.

30GB 5th gen ipod video does not play any songs

I have had the same problem on my sisters ipod. Unfortunately I could not fix it. You can take it down to the apple store and have their genius bar look at it, even though most of the time I know more about ipods than they do they will at least be aware the problem exists. I pulled the hard drive out and put it into another iPod to test it. The hard drive is fine. My best guess is that a transistor or something on the circuit board went bad and is not allowing for that function. What I did was sold it on eBay as broken for $86 bucks. I then went to apple.com/store and scrolled to the bottom left of the page and they sell refurbished ipods that appear new with the same warrenty as a new one. We bought my sister a 80GB classic for $179 minus the $86 we got from the broken one. It was nice to have the new one for less than a $100 total. It's either that or find someone that knows how to replace the circuit board which costs around $70 bucks used. Good luck.

Jensen vm9412 and ipod classic

The newer generation iPods don't always work with the iPod connection kits in a lot of the car stereos. Some of the problem is due to the fact that the new generation iPods have been changed and the stereos were manufactured before the players were released so they are not compatible.
I bought my girlfriend a Pioneer car stereo with an iPod control cable, and it works fine with her Nano (not the new generation Nano) and it works with my iPod Photo 60 GB but it does not work with my iPhone 2G and I read that it is not compatible with the new Nanos or the Classics. Check with Jensen to see if the model you have is compatible with the Classic and see if there is a solution to the issue. It may not be compatible with the new video portion of the Classic firmware.

Cheers
