Try installing by right clicking and then choosing run as administrator... coz some system folders can be modified by the setup only if it has admin permission...

I could not upgrade neither windows XP, Windows 7 of this Product Model: GT5662. Would you assits? Thanks.

Hello kelvinvu, according to the information that I gathered from this computer model, it has Windows Vista 32 bit home premium installed on it. Windows XP is an older operating system so you can't "upgrade" to it. You could however install a fresh copy (more likely completely erasing all your previous information on vista and data files) or you could upgrade to Windows 7. Since you are using "Windows Vista 32 bit home premium", you have to upgrade to "Windows 7 32 bit home premium" or better. So if you were trying to "upgrade" to Windows 7 Home Basic, it will not allow that since it considers that a downgrade in the Operating System. You should actually be able to pop in the Windows 7 Home Premium CD while vista is running and start the upgrade process pretty painlessly that way. Just access the CD and walk through the menus for upgrading Vista to Windows 7. As a reminder, you must use the 32 bit discs. If you try and use the 64 bit discs (a different operating system as far as windows is concerned) you will have to go through the same process of installing a new version of windows (not upgrade). I hope this has solved your specific problem kelvinvu, have a great day!

Compatibility settings for older programs to run in Vista and Windows 7

Because of the way some software was written before windows Vista and Windows 7, such as windows XP applications they are not always compatible with the newer operating systems. However Microsoft has included some compatibility settings on executable files to hopefully fix these incompatibilities, so if a program isn't function properly in windows 7 you may wish to try this.<br /><br />1. Right click on the .exe or .msi installer package for the program you wish to install<br /><br />2. In the right click menu select the properties option<br /><br />3. In the tabs that appear select the compatibility tab<br /><br />4. Set the drop down operating system to be compatible with to the operating system that the program is designed to run on.<br /><br />5. Check the box that is labeled "run as administrator"<br /><br />hope this helps your applications that are performing unexpectedly in windows 7<br />

I wanted to wipe my entire hard drive on my old Dimension 8400 that contained windows xp on it and reinstall it with windows vista, which i have the cd for. however, when i did so, each time i try loading...

1. you will need to know 1st that the hard drive you are installing is compatible with the desktop.
2. Is the hard drive compatible with the new Operating system (VISTA).
3. Check to see if you have the hard drive properly inserted that is properly cabled and connected. This will render error in installation.
4. Make sure you are installing the Operating system correctly.
5. Some boot sectors become corrupt during a change in Operating system if the hard drive is not properly formatted.
6. Try formatting the hard drive again and re-installing.

Lost registry files, OEM software so I don't have the disk to reinstall Windows. Operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium, 64 bit.

http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4477672/window_vista_home_premium_64_bit_sp1_NOT_CRACKED
in this location you wil be able to download the vista and after that burn it on a disk using Nero ...remember to double click on the image ..and let nero make it bootable ..do not open nero and try to burn by adding ..
You will need a torrent client to be able to download use uttorent is tha fastest ..and it is available on google search for free
But ..if you do not want the 64 ...there are available more vista on 32...and they are even without need for registration ...But if you do have the opriginal registration from the previous..this will do the job cause it is the exact one that you had..

It doesn't play =((

Do you get any error messages? Try Downloading the updated drivers and install them. Make sure you download the drivers for 64-bit vista OS. Now if it still doesnt work let me know.

Are certain restore disks interchangeable?

Unfortunately you cant use a vista restore disk for a XP operating system.

You could install vista on it and then use XP compatibility mode for whatever programs you want to run. Simply right click on the program and select the compatability tab..change to XP.

Downgrade Acer M1641 from Vista home premium to Windows XP

Its a driver incompatibility issue. Many hardware components designed for Vista are incompatible with XP. This means that the Realtek audio driver may be the Vista version. Also, some hardware has of yet no XP drivers, so your audio components were designed for Vista only.
While it may be possible to "force" the driver to work, it may involve a number of hacks to the Windows registry and other files.

I had installed Home Vista before Ike and now the systems keeps telling me I have to upgrade my windows 2002? My case number was 1078167319

Hi,

Prior to the windows vista installation, did you reformat your hard drive and clean out everything? I am not sure why you have that message, asking you to upgrade your windows 2002 if your system has windows vista already,

I suggest, if you keep on having this message. Try reformatting and reinstalling your vista again. But before you do it, make it sure that you passed all the system requirements since windows vista has higher specification than your old operating system.

Keep me posted.

Thanks

From Norton website, this is the minimum specs inorder to make it work. Do you have this ?
  • 300MHz or higher processor
  • 256MB of RAM
  • 300MB of available hard disk space
** Must meet minimum Windows Vista operating system requirements.
